Job Description Summary


The Recovery Coach Professional I provides a wide range of support services to consumers to assist them in regaining control over their own lives and their own recovery process. Human services activities include individual and/or group counseling and/or programming.

  • Knowledge of the disease of substance use disorder through direct experience and coursework.
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing.
  • Provides peer recovery support services to recoverees.
  • Work one on one with consumers to set goals in achieving positive changes as they define it for themselves, to assess progress in achieving goals, and to redefine goals if necessary in a client centered manner.
  • Work with consumers to remove barriers to achieving positive changes and document the process.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and referrals related to substance use, health care and basic needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak, facilitate small and large groups, write clearly, accurately and effectively for a range of audience and purposes such as reports, advocacy, and in-services.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to develop and maintain the confidence and cooperation of others, to engage consumers in a client centered manner and create effective referrals, collaborate with Team Members in an effort to promote cohesiveness and maximize results within the program.
  • Develop and build trust in communities served by Adult Well-Being Services.
  • Demonstrated organization skills and ability to work on multiple projects, achieve outcomes and meet or exceed expectations regarding timelines, quality and service.
  • Ability to apply analytical/critical thinking, keen insight and judgment and to effectively respond to changes, resistance, conflict, emergencies and complex, urgent situations.
  • Must maintain accurate and sufficient documentation to permit successful entering into Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and allow for timely billing.
  • Writes, maintains and submits accurate, complete and timely documentation (daily progress notes, consumer records, vehicle records, accident reports and incident reports) to ensure quality, service compliance with the IPOS and with funders.
  • Keep abreast of all required trainings including CPR, First Aide, Recipient Rights, and Person-Centered Planning.
  • Complies with Corporate Compliance Standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Work Conditions


  • Physical, mental and emotional condition adequate for performance of the work.
  • Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies to health fairs, presentations and/or other public forums.
  • Travel required in the community including recoveree’s home, community settings or other job- related travel as required.
  • Must maintain auto insurance liability coverage.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, and lift up to 35 pounds or less without assistance, drive, stretch/reach, and hand/finger dexterity.
  • Flexibility required.


Education/Experience/Credentials

Education

Required

  • High School Diploma/GED.

Experience

Required

  • One to two years relevant experience and demonstrated ability to work with persons who are at risk either because of Substance Use Disorder, coping ability or environment.

Credentials

Required

  • Certified Recovery Mentor or commitment to complete certification within six months of hire date.
  • A valid Michigan Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred

  • Associates Degree.
  • McBAP Development Plan.
