Position: Peer Connections Mentoring Program Teacher
Department: Special Education/Student Services
Reports To: Director of Special Education and Student Services
Salary: Teacher salary scale (Permanent full time benefited position)
Location: Allegany High School
Overview
The Peer Mentoring Program is designed to improve:
- attendance by providing a supportive mentoring relationship for students.;
- behavior by teaching social/emotional skills and through modeling within the mentoring relationship;
- academic performance with opportunities for students to receive additional support from their faculty and peer mentor.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or School Guidance
- High School certification preferrred (not required)
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in planning and implementation of new program
- Coordinate the referral, application, and selection process of students recommended for program
- Collaborate with school counselors and Pupil Services Team for referral of students
- Participate as an active member of the PBIS team
- Work with school counselors to design staff development on the Mentoring Program
- Teach four introductory courses in year 1
- Teach four introductory courses plus two honors level courses in year 2 and subsequent years
