We are looking for two (2) knowledgeable and driven individuals to join Alliant Energy’s Energy Markets team as an Energy Market Analyst II. This is an opportunity to leverage your moderate energy industry experience to advance your career within the exciting, fast paced and everchanging energy market.
The Energy Market Analyst II will be involved in a wide range of energy market activities including managing Alliant Energy’s Risk Management Program, hedging and trading, generation operations, dispatch and interacting with MISO. In addition, this position will play a key role in the logistics and scheduling of fuel & energy supply.
This is a hybrid-remote position reporting to Madison, WI office. Candidates must reside in Wisconsin.
What you will do
  • Performs moderately complex data analysis in support of energy trading activities such as bulk power trading, trade capture operations, congestion hedging, fuel cost hedging, load bidding operations, outage schedule maintenance, fuel forecasting and variance analysis, generation offer operations, and electricity scheduling operations.
  • Monitors market and/or operational data to be aware of changing market conditions.
  • Maintains a basic understanding of the business of a regulated electric utility including details of fuel recovery rules in each applicable jurisdiction, Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) energy market rules and processes, energy portfolios, and bulk power trading rules and processes.
  • Actively shares knowledge with others in workgroup.
  • Reviews the work of other analysts and provides guidance in decision making situations.
  • Performs after-the-fact review and variance analysis to identify additional market, cost saving, and forecasting improvement opportunities.
  • Supports established operational processes by documenting, troubleshooting, exploring, and implementing operational process improvements. Offers suggestions for and assists in improving processes and developing new forecasting tools.
  • Provides clear, audience-appropriate written and verbal explanations of forecast components, market conditions, operational issues and variance analysis.
  • Modifies recurrent (daily, weekly, monthly) reports on position, financial activity and resource allocation.
  • Conducts analysis and prepares information for back office and accounting groups to bill counterparties, create financial statements, and respond to moderately complex information requests.
  • Assists in gathering information to respond to annual and supplement data requests or standard reports from regulatory agencies (e.g., state public service commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission).
  • Under the direction of more experienced analysts, may perform both internal and external training. May be required to cross-train and provide backup on any responsibility area listed in the position summary.
  • May assume responsibility or play a key role in special projects.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in business, marketing, engineering or related field is preferred

Experience
  • 3 years of related experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of an independent system operator energy market preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management). Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and related analytical tools preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to setup, maintain and draw conclusions from large data sets.
  • Solid knowledge of analytical methods and analysis preferred.
  • Works in a diverse and inclusive environment.
