Education:Minimum qualifications require a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio.
Experience: At least 5 years hospital nursing or work in a community mental health setting. Experience with the severely mentally disabled adult population preferred. Experience supervising other nurses in a clinical setting preferred.
Qualifications: The Nursing coordinator must demonstrate strong skills in clinical work, as well as skills in supervision, educating consumers and staff, general program development and department planning. His/ her general nursing skills shall be used to effectively assess and triage consumer’s needs both psychiatrically and medically. He/ she shall have the ability to respond to medical emergencies that may arise within the agency until community responders arrive. Must have the ability to manage and track many tasks simultaneously as well as demonstrate good organization, flexibility, adaptability, and patience. He/ she should be open to the individuality of others. Strong oral and writing skills are critical to the role. He/ she shall be able to work within a multidisciplinary clinical team of professionals. The Nurse Coordinator must be able to analyze information to assess agency/ consumer needs and outcomes. He/ she shall work with the administrative team of the agency to manage and apply agency resources in a fiscally sound manner. Experience and proficiency in using electronic medical records. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel).

Subordinates: Psychiatric Nurses
Position Summary: The Nursing Coordinatoris responsible for the overall operation of the interdisciplinary team made up nurses and support staff who work within the medical-somatic services at the agency. He/ she directs and supervises all clinical activities of the nurses while coordinating and consulting with agency leadership. The Nursing Coordinator facilitates health education opportunities for staff and consumers. Through quality improvement activities, the Nursing Coordinator is actively involved in chart and peer review, program evaluation and assessing the utilization of clinical resources to provide optimum care for our consumers. He/she provides leadership and accountability for all aspects of the clinical services he/she supervises, assuring support of the mission and values of the agency. He/ she promotes standards of clinical competence and professional conduct.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative:
A. Coordinates and monitors internal operations of medical-somatic services. Meets with department staff and key administrative staff to review or revise policies/procedures, documentation, regulation requirements, and QI activities as part of the internal operations of the Agency.
B. Consults with and advises the CEO on changes or problems identified relating to the operations of the department.
C. Consults with the agency directors and CEO to develop program expansions or reductions based on gaps of service or financial opportunities.
D. Works with administration to explore how technology can maximize efficiencies within the corporation.
E. Actively involved in care coordination with outside entities such as other providers of care, services, guardians, etc.
F. Reviews staffing patterns to ensure department coverage.
G. Attends meetings within the community to enhance education, PR, marketing, and networking on behalf of the agency.
H. Is actively involved in the recruitment and selection of new employees when department positions are open. Interviews potential hires; assists in employee orientation and education; and monitors supervision of subordinates within their departments.
I. Maintain nursing licensure including attending required continuing education workshops and seminars.
J. Maintain accurate record keeping under CARF and OhioMHAS Standards.
K. Work with CEO to maintain the agency’s TDD license.
L. Work as a liaison between CEO, psychiatrists and nursing staff.
Clinical:
A. Order necessary medical supplies for the department.
B. Maintain secure access of the medication room.
C. Provide general nursing assessment of consumer’s medical and psychiatric needs.
D. Assist with medication prior authorizations as needed.
E. Provide medication education and information related to side-effects.
F. Complete phone orders for medications as directed by the psychiatrists.
G. Complete ordering of Central Pharmacy medications and distribute to consumers as directed by the psychiatrists. Track orders to ensure accuracy and return unused medications to Central Pharmacy.
H. Complete and update treatment plans.
I. Complete outcome assessments with clients.
J. Access Emergency Services staff for consumers in need to hospitalization pre-screening or crisis services.
K. Provide consumer education on medical questions and concerns.
L. Oversee medication monitoring for clients who are at high risk for decompensation or who have difficulty managing their medication independently.
M. Coordinate with physicians regarding medication and lab orders when questions arise.
N. Attend treatment team meetings as needed for care coordination.
O. Work with the agency Quality and Safety Manager to comply with agency health and safety policies as well as necessary quality improvement activities.
P. Coordinate consumer care with community physicians and other medical treatment providers including hospitals and community based care.
Q. Monitor patients for side effects to medications or changes in mental status.
R. Complete all clinical and administrative documentation required by the agency.
S. Complete referrals to other community agencies and services when appropriate.
