Location: San Diego California 92130

Duration: 12 Month Contract with possible extension

Pay Rate: $55/hr - $60/hr (depending on experience)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Scientist II to support the research and development of monoclonal antibodies within the Antibody Technologies team. This role operates in a dynamic, team-based environment and contributes to multiple workstreams, including antibody screening using flow cytometry, hybridoma tissue culture and development, and recombinant protein expression.

The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on experience with flow cytometry, strong tissue culture expertise, and a solid foundation in biochemistry and molecular biology. This position requires the ability to design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data, troubleshoot effectively, implement process improvements, and present findings during lab meetings.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments of varying complexity using multi-color flow cytometry.
• Analyze flow cytometry data using FCS Express and FlowJo; report test results and complete all required documentation and database entries per protocols and SOPs.
• Perform transfection and expression of antibodies in cell lines, hybridoma tissue culture, and culture of various cell lines for testing.
• Execute experiments using automated liquid handling systems and other laboratory automation equipment.
• Perform day-to-day problem solving and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure operational timelines are met.
• Contribute to the identification and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
• Train junior scientists on laboratory techniques and internal business processes.
• Independently analyze research data, troubleshoot issues with minimal supervision, and plan follow-up experiments.
• Effectively prioritize workload and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Support laboratory scheduling, operational activities, and routine maintenance duties.

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on experience designing, performing, and analyzing flow cytometry experiments; preference for experience with BD flow cytometers (LSR II, LSR Fortessa, Canto, Aria).
• Proficiency in tissue culture techniques, including cell transfection for protein expression.
• Software proficiency: BD FACSDiva, FlowJo, FCS Express, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with assay automation platforms.
• Working knowledge of molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA preparation).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
• Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain neat, accurate, and complete laboratory records.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
• 2–4 years of laboratory experience required.
• Flow cytometry and tissue culture experience required.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing, performing, and analyzing flow cytometry experiments.
• Proficiency in tissue culture techniques, including cell transfection for protein expression.
• Experience with BD FACSDiva, FlowJo, FCS Express, and Microsoft Office Suite.
