GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Technicians install and maintain home automation and security systems at customer sites. In addition, they serve as a customer resource for product and service recommendations that meet the customers’ needs for home comfort, convenience and security.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Requires installation of home automation and security systems. This may include the installation of thermostats and cameras.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must have high school diploma or GED
REQUIRED EXPERTISE:
- Must have technical field experience in completing Security installation/service work
- All team members must be physically able to climb ladders, work in crawl spaces and attics or other confined spaces, push/pull and lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be self-motivated and professionally efficient when unsupervised
- Must possess the aptitude to learn new technologies
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT
Responsible for company vehicle and equipment, which includes but is not limited to iPad and cell phone and customer property. Employee is required to track usage of equipment and will participate in regular inventory checks.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under minimal supervision out in the field, where standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on routine work.
PLANNING
Limited responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work operations.
DECISION MAKING
Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance and which would not only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved, but would also affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele to a slight degree.
MENTAL DEMAND
Light mental demand. Operations requiring intermittent directed thinking to carry out predetermined procedure or sequence of operations of limited variability. Operations requiring intermittent attention to control machine or manual motions.
ANALYTICAL ABILITY / PROBLEM SOLVING
Moderately repetitive. Activities with slight variation using a definite set of processes or directions with some degree of supervision. Choice of learned things in situations which conform to clearly established patterns and modes.
USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS
- Must be comfortable working with hand basic tools: drill, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
- Proficiency with Smart Phone and/or Tablets
- Experience with customer facing sales or service of personal technology (Computers, Tablets, Smart Phones, or Networking)
ACCURACY
Probable errors of internal scope should ordinarily be detected, but may affect the work of others within the unit, requiring additional expenditure of time to trace errors and make all necessary corrections. Errors would require a moderate amount of time to correct.
PUBLIC CONTACT
Contacts of considerable importance with general public, patrons, or other outside representatives, wherein the manner of handling these contacts has a significant bearing on the organization's position and operation. Requires tact in discussing problems and presenting data and making recommendations.
EMPLOYEE CONTACT
Frequent contacts with the manager and Central Support Office, such as those required in coordination of effort, generally in normal course of performing duties.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess a valid driver's license, proof of legal ability to work, and pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Must have a clean driving record
- Licenses required are based on local and state market jurisdiction.
SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED
Intermediate computer skills required. Position works with multiple software systems daily.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Must be able to position self to install cable and systems in customer sites (this includes bending, twisting, crouching, climbing on ladders up to 20 feet above ground). Potentially required to crawl in attics or small spaces. Must be able to handle temperature changes when working in inside buildings (basements and attics) and outdoors. Must be able to move, transport, position and install or remove equipment in weight of up to 50 pounds.
Position requires driving company vehicle on roads and highways, with multiple stops, in all weather conditions. Driving frequently is up to one hour at time, and occasionally more dependent on schedule, road and traffic conditions.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Drives motor vehicle and works independently in field, at customer residential sites.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Normal work schedule is five days a week, eight hours a day. Position often works additional hours based on customer demands.
