Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their growing team in Phoenix, AZ. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the mechanical engineering efforts behind some of the most advanced semiconductor facilities in the world.
In this pivotal role, you will design and deliver highly complex mechanical systems for contamination-controlled environments. You'll also mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create facilities that meet the rigorous technical demands of next-gen manufacturing.
๐ ๏ธ What Youโll Do
Lead the Design of High-Precision Mechanical Systems
- Engineer complex HVAC, heating/cooling, and process mechanical systems tailored for semiconductor manufacturing.
- Develop utility matrices, point-of-use (POU) connections, and ensure compliance with vibration, EMI/RFI, and acoustic constraints.
- Design critical systems, including:
- Ultra-Pure Water (UPW), industrial/process water systems
- Exhaust and chemical drain systems for hazardous production materials (HPMs)
- Specialized cleanroom HVAC and pressure control systems
- Perform thermodynamic, psychrometric, and hydraulic analyses to optimize energy efficiency and system performance.
- Ensure all designs comply with ASME, ASHRAE, NFPA, SEMI, SMACNA, and client EHS standards.
Drive Execution and Collaboration
- Lead design reviews, HAZOPs, and constructability assessments.
- Coordinate with disciplines across electrical, process, structural, and controls.
- Perform site surveys, verify field conditions, and resolve complex construction challenges.
- Support system commissioning, respond to RFIs, review submittals, and develop control narratives and sequences of operation.
Mentor and Lead
- Serve as a senior technical authority within the firm.
- Guide junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation and continuous technical growth.
๐ Qualifications
- Bachelorโs Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (required).
- An active PE license or the ability to obtain reciprocity in a reasonable timeframe.
- Extensive experience in mechanical system design for semiconductor, cleanroom, pharmaceutical, or high-tech industrial environments.
- Familiarity with design-build and fast-track semiconductor tool install projects.
- Proficiency with at least one hydraulic modeling tool (e.g., PIPE-FLO, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow).
- Expert understanding of HVAC, UPW, PCW, gas exhaust systems, and mechanical utility integration.
- Hands-on experience with field verifications and site troubleshooting.
- Deep knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE 62.1/90.1, SMACNA, NFPA for HPMs, IMC, SEMI S2/S6).
- Strong interpersonal, technical writing, and coordination skills.
