    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Principal/s, Elementary ELA Curriculum Coordinator(s), Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
    JOB SUMMARY AND REQUIREMENTS:
    The coach will support Y5 - 5th staff in the implementation of tier one core instruction, tier two and tier three interventions. Possess a deep understanding of and have the ability to guide the implementation of the practices found within Michigan’s Essential Instructional Practices. TThe coach will work directly with teachers and students within schools to practice, model and support effective, research-based instruction. Additionally, the coach will work to address targeted skill building with students who are striving with identified concepts in their content area. The coach will collaborate with administrators and teachers to collect, analyze, and interpret data to guide instructional decisions and intervention plans.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Content specific trainings (i.e. Literacy Essentials)
    Additional training and credentials in coaching and/or coaching experience (i.e. Cognitive Coaching, Coaching 101)
    Understanding and/or experience with district assessments and instructional programs (Lexia, NWEA)

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Possess a valid Michigan elementary teaching certificate
    Must be Highly Qualified in accordance with NCLB
    Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience across multiple grade levels at the elementary level
    Possess an endorsement, master’s degree or advanced coursework (Math or Reading Recovery trained) in the content area (i.e. Reading endorsement)
    Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, anti-racism and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities, specifically using the AAPS Framework for Equitable Instruction
    Have deep knowledge of research supported whole group, small group, and individual instructional practices for the content area in mathematics
    Successful experience in understanding adult learning principles and dispositions in order to successfully design and facilitate adult learning
    In collaboration with Elementary Curriculum Coordinators; identifies, plans, organizes, designs and implements learning opportunities at both the building and district level
    Strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) and initiative
    Engages in self-reflection, ongoing learning and personal and professional development on critical concepts and values identified in the Ann Arbor Public Schools

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Support equitable core instruction utilizing district approved curriculum in general education classrooms through professional learning opportunities
    Models asset-based mindset drawing explicit connections to the Framework for Equitable Instruction
    Develop lessons and instructional materials to provide targeted intervention in tier 2 and 3 utilizing district approved resources
    Uses and interprets data to create fluid, flexible intervention groups within and/or outside the classroom
    Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, by keeping appropriate records, through the use of a balanced assessment system
    Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop individualized instruction for students in an effort to ensure equity and coherence of goals and instruction.
    Provide various levels of support for classroom teachers, for example: Co-planning, modeling and co-teaching researched based, district approved instructional strategies within classrooms
    Plan and facilitates professional learning opportunities for staff within the building and across the district
    Provide district and building-based home workshops for parents
    Assume an active role on building support teams
    Other duties as assigned by the school administrator and/or district math coordinator

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    Effectively present information and respond to questions in group settings.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    Collect, analyze and organize multiple data sources in all areas of literacy.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents and community.
    Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Other duties as assigned.

    The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors across the district—not limited to one particular building.
