QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
In the Ann Arbor Public Schools, our district Equity Plan drives our staff and school community in

waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
The High School Dean will assist school leadership in all matters related to student discipline,
crisis management, attendance monitoring, conflict resolution.
The High School Dean is responsible for ensuring that all ninth graders are successfully
integrated into the High School program. Areas of responsibility include articulating and executing
a vision for a comprehensive 9th-grade experience; developing, implementing, and overseeing
grade-specific extracurricular and community activities; and successfully guiding students through
the first year of our academic program.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Teaching Certificate with valid endorsement preferred
Meet requirements for Michigan administrative certification
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Masters Degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in supervision, administration,
curriculum, or related field, or be enrolled in a program leading to certification as a school
administrator not later than six months after beginning employment as required by Michigan
Department of Education.
Three years of successful administrative experience at the secondary level or equivalent
administrative experience is preferred.
Five years of successful teaching and/or counseling experience at the secondary level is
preferred.
Ability to demonstrate sound reasoning, thinking, and collaboration skills; knowledge of or
experience with TregoED problem-solving processes or the willingness to learn
Knowledge of athletic programs and Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and
regulations.
Demonstrate evidence of systematic study of secondary school organization and curriculum as
well as growth and development and an understanding of the secondary school student.
Possess the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other administrators.
Possess a variety of school experiences with varied racial groups, and experience in promoting
gender equity in athletics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attendance monitor, oversee attendance policies, address truancy issues, and work to improve student
attendance rates
Collaborate with local community centers to support students
Serve as a liaison between school administration, students, staff, parents and community centers
Know and support all high school students
Assist the Principal in implementing and supporting the District's instructional and operational
goals as articulated by the Superintendent
Evaluate instructional and non-instructional staff and make appropriate recommendations
Collaborate to provide the school community leadership, vision, and direction
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for student, staff, and families
Demonstrate a self-reflective, innovative, anti-racist, equity-focused set of core beliefs
Co-create an anti-racist, collaborative environment among staff, students, families, and the
greater Ann Arbor community
Responsible for discipline and the fostering of good conduct
Plan and execute grade specific activities and events, such as middle school to high school
transition.
Planning and executing first-year orientation for
Working with the grade-level counselor to coordinate support services and academic
accommodations.
Coordinating and communicating disciplinary action as needed.
Attentiveness to administrative detail
The ability to make unpopular decisions, take responsibility, and set boundaries in the face of
unreasonable demands and persistent concerns.
Create and monitor student intervention plans.
Plans and implements programs designed to develop student social emotional learning
Actively provides follow-up student discipline in regard to teacher and campus referrals using
Restorative Justice Practices and the AAPS Rights & Responsibilities guidelines.
Meets and confers with parents and school personnel in developing alternative solutions to
student attendance and discipline problems and concerns.
Support International Baccalaureate philosophies.
Attend International Baccalaureate training as required.
Improve and expand the educational opportunities and planning for all students, including
students with diverse and special needs
Demonstrate proficiency with culturally responsive pedagogy and instructional techniques/tools
Foster a dynamic school culture centered on holistic, inclusive learning communities
Work with diverse ethnic and socio-economic groups, and maintain positive relations with all members of the
school community
Foster community relationships and partnerships that support students
Select, supervise, and evaluate all staff and collaborate with teachers in improving teaching and
learning
Maintain a learning community with high standards of instructional excellence in curriculum,
instructional methods, instructional supervision and coaching, student assessment, and school
improvement and planning
Serve on school and district-wide committees and represent the school as otherwise may be
directed
Assist in general supervision including evening and/or weekend activities as necessary.
