Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments and surgical supplies, ensuring all equipment is properly sanitized and ready for use.
- Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by handing instruments, managing suction, and maintaining a clear operative field.
- Monitor and record vital signs and medical history of patients before, during, and after surgeries to ensure safety and compliance with medical standards.
- Operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners to obtain accurate diagnostic images essential for treatment planning.
- Manage medical documentation including medical records, dental terminology, and procedural notes in electronic health record (EHR) systems like Archy while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
- Support patient comfort by providing pre- and post-operative instructions and addressing questions related to procedures or recovery processes.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques, proper sterilization of instruments, and adherence to OSHA guidelines.
Skills
- Proficiency with electronic medical records systems such as EMR systems, Archy, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic.
- Strong knowledge of dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with dental terminology related to oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry procedures.
- Ability to interpret X-ray images and operate medical imaging devices like 3D scanners effectively.
- Experience in pediatric dentistry settings is a plus for working with young patients requiring specialized care.
- Knowledge of anatomy relevant to oral surgery procedures and understanding of vital signs monitoring during surgeries.
- Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist when coordinating appointments or explaining procedures to patients.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining sterile environment and providing exceptional patient care.
- Ability to follow detailed medical coding practices for billing and documentation purposes while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
