Summer Camp Counselor

Apple Tree Learning Centers is seeking qualified candidates for our Assistant Counselor positions at Stowe Summer Camp for summer 2024. Experience working with young children in an Early Education or Outdoor Education setting preferred. Responsible for physical and emotional safety of campers ages 5-12yrs. Willing to become a Certified Lifeguard, we will pay for this course, First Aid, CPR. For assistant Counselor a minimum of CDA or a college course in Early Education or a related field is required. Pay is based on years of experience and education.

∙ Responsible for campers ages 5-12yrs.

∙ Full Day from 7:30am to 5:30pm M-F . Shifts vary from 730-430, 8-5 or 830-530

∙ Preparation and planning required.

∙ Ensure that campers get to know one another, treat each other with respect, are actively

engaged and have fun.

∙ Supervise approximately 8 campers solo; on and off site.

∙ Safely transport campers in 14 passenger bus to off-site activities daily.

∙ Assist activity instructors off site.

∙ Lead additional indoor and outdoor activities on and off site.

∙ Responsible for physical and emotional safety of every camper and self at all times.

Special Skills:

Red Cross Certified Life Guard, First Aid, CPR.

Insurable driver to safely transport young children in 14 passenger bus.

A Typical Day:

Prepare plans, supplies and room for the week’s focus activity. Plan downtime craft, art project,

games, and activities for the week. Review schedule. Consider snack plans. Remain flexible,

attentive and even spontaneous, but be sure to over-plan just in case. Early arrival: 7:30am.

Facilitate free time play. Meet each camper and parent. Check in with them. Try to get a

sense of how they are feeling. Introduce campers and help them engage in free time activity.

Take attendance. Facilitate Circle Time. Introduce name game and get-to-know-you games in

creative 5-day progression. Introduce / review behavior expectations. Review schedule.

Facilitate, morning activity, snack break, and bathroom break. Make sure that children have all

their personal belongings: backpacks, lunch boxes, articles of clothing, etc. Load the Bus.

Personally secure all seat belts. Transport children safely to activity. Support off site activity

instructors, and assure safety of children. Facilitate additional games off site, and supervise

snacks and other breaks. Safely transport children back to base camp. Prepare children for parent

pick up. Facilitate free time activities and/or closure game(s). Meet parents. Check in, share

thoughts about the child’s day. Site pick-up. Prepare for next day. Attend weekly staff meetings,
