Essential Duties
- Serve as Academic Mentor for highest at-risk student-athletes across all sports.
- Conduct daily one-on-one academic meetings with a caseload of students teaching learning strategies and address academic needs.
- Develops and/or strengthens academic skills including time management, organization, study skills, subject specific tutoring (Math, Science, general studies), and prioritization across all related subject areas.
- Provide daily academic support/mentoring to most at-risk student-athletes. Meet one-on-one reviewing assignments, grades, academic deadlines and progress.
- Ensure daily progress and adherence to all deadlines.
- Create a master calendar for each student with assignments/tests/exams due dates for the entire semester.
- Create grade tracking sheets and update as assignments/grades post. Project final grades throughout the semester.
- Regular communication on performance to supervisor, OSAD monitoring sheet, sport coaches and sport administrators (if appropriate).
- The highest academically at-risk student athletes’ academic progress is monitored daily/weekly.
- Monitors, creates and presents regular progress reports.
- Communicates with Academic Coach on student-athlete’s academic progress, grade projections, and grade updates daily
- Act as a resource and provide training as needed for students, tutors, and staff in the areas of study skills, learning strategies and disability identification.
- Assist with Emerging Scholars program, which is a program designed to monitor at-risk student-athletes throughout the semester.
- Assist with coordination of all incoming student athlete assessment mechanisms (Reading and Writing Comprehension, study skills etc.) including identification of possible learning disabilities and referring for testing.
- Assist in training of OSAD staff (including academic mentors and tutors) on learning assessment tools, strategies and tactics for meeting the needs of different learners.
- Assist with on-going training and support to academic mentoring staff through weekly/bi-monthly check-ins.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience in the program of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with at-risk students in a secondary or post-secondary education environment.
- Experience providing one-on-one academic support to students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective learning strategies, motivational techniques and study skill development.
- Experience in work that required conducting self with uncompromising integrity, exercising sound judgment and handling sensitive, confidential information with discretion, according to FERPA guidelines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in using organizational skills.
- Fundamental technical skills in word processing and managing spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
- Experience in high productivity, attention to detail, coordination, and follow-through in high-demand environments.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
- Communicate to perform essential functions
- May be required to work nights and weekends
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
- Some travel may/will be required with teams during competition season.
