What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dance Instructor position at Arlington Heights Park District?
Arlington Heights Park District Expressions Performing Arts Academy is seeking talented Dance Instructors with weeknight and/or Saturday morning availability. Candidates should have a strong dance background, and extensive experience working with children. A Bachelor's in Dance is preferred, but comparable experience is accepted. Classes vary from 3yrs to high-level teens. Come join our fun studio with lots of subbing opportunities! The salary range is $25-$40 DOQ.
Essential Job Duties
- Prepares lesson plans and movement activities to meet the program or class objectives with input from the Cultural Arts Supervisor
- Selects and prepares required music, materials, and equipment for each class
- Selects appropriate music, costumes, and dances for the dance recital
- Assists as needed with recital preparations
- Select dance costumes within the established budget
- Teaches elements of dance according to the provided curriculum
- Teaches creativity to develop enthusiasm within students for dance
- Assists the Cultural Arts Supervisor in developing dance class information for inclusion in the Program Guide
- Welcomes participants and takes attendance at each class
- Upholds the quality of instructions while maintaining control of the class
- Communicate with parents regularly regarding their children and the program or class including behavior management and skill progression
This position must possess the following qualifications:
- BA/BS in Dance, Performing Arts, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum three to five years experience in dance performance and instruction preferred
- Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
- CPR and First Aid Certification preferred
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Standing or sitting for sustained periods while completing work
- Repetitive hand/arm movements such as when demonstrating dance techniques to participants
- Some bending, twisting, and walking while performing job duties
- Some bending, kneeling and reaching for items off the floor and on high shelves
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. in dance equipment, storage boxes, and other supplies.
