Tax Specialist

The Tax Specialist is a member of the Global Tax Team. This is position’s primary responsibility is assisting in the completion of federal, state and local tax compliance, researching technical aspects of the relevant, prepare ASC 740 calculations. We are a small tax department so the tax specialist will have exposure to many areas of tax. Targeted Outcomes During the first three months you should ensure that you have the technical knowledge needed to complete assignments on time. During the first six months you should be able to improve and streamline processes associated with your assigned tasks. Within the first year you should be able to complete assignments independently and be able to be the lead on special projects. Key Responsibilities Tax Compliance Prepare estimated tax payments for federal and state income tax purposes Assist in the completion of the federal corporate income tax return Prepare state apportionment workpapers and assist with the preparation of state returns Prepare misc. returns such as 1042, excise tax returns and nonprofit tax return Work with external consultant to update and maintain the tax fixed asset depreciation schedules, both domestic and international Able to prepare trial balance for the tax return, including analyzing intercompany transactions Tax Accounting and Reporting Assist with preparation of the income tax provision and associated tax accounting maintenance Responsible for uploading tax information into OneSource Tax Provision Calculate M adjustments and reconcile deferred balances. Prepare Tax account reconciliations for state, federal and international and propose necessary adjustments Assist with the annual external tax audit process Tax Research and Planning Able to research tax technical issues and prepare internal memos Stay up to date on state tax law changes Calculate the tax impact of entering new tax jurisdictions Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Tax Items Assist in the improvement/implementation of processes and special projects Maintain the Tax Calendar Assist with the R&D credit process. This includes working with third party provider, gathering GL detail and scheduling interviews. Gather & assist with information for tax audits as directed Work with outside vendor on Superfund Excise tax compliance Help implement and maintain the Global Incentive tracker Provide fixed asset information for property tax renditions. Be prepared to be the backup for indirect tax if needed. Team Reports to the Tax Senior Manager Peers include Sr. Tax Specialists and Indirect Tax Principal Experience Minimum 3 years of progressive tax experience with industry and/or accounting firm tax experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA preferred Proficiency in OneSource or similar software for provision and tax returns SAP experience preferred Strong knowledge of MS Office applications, specifically Excel Skills Must have excellent organizational and time management skills, self-directed, and able to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail Ability to recognize problems and escalate as it arises Able to research and interpret tax technical issues.
