Overview:
A leading investment management firm headquartered in Palm Beach is seeking a highly skilled and business-oriented attorney with 5 years of experience specializing in bankruptcy, restructuring, and distressed investing. This role will support the firm’s investment strategies involving distressed credit, special situations, and complex restructurings across multiple sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel on bankruptcy proceedings, out-of-court restructurings, distressed debt acquisitions, and workouts.
- Advise investment teams on legal risks and structuring of transactions involving distressed or insolvent entities.
- Oversee and coordinate with external legal counsel on complex restructuring and litigation matters.
- Conduct legal due diligence on potential investments, including review of credit documents, court filings, and restructuring proposals.
- Monitor ongoing restructurings and represent the firm’s interests in creditor committees or court proceedings as needed.
- Work cross-functionally with investment professionals, compliance, and operations teams to manage legal and regulatory risk.
- Stay current on developments in bankruptcy law, distressed investing, and financial regulations impacting the firm's strategies.
Qualifications:
- JD from a top-tier law school; member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in bankruptcy and restructuring law, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house or buy-side experience.
- Deep understanding of U.S. Bankruptcy Code, Article 9, and restructuring processes (Chapter 11, out-of-court workouts, DIP financing, etc.).
- Experience working with or advising hedge funds, private equity, or investment managers is strongly preferred.
- Ability to navigate complex deal structures and drive results in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
