WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER

Location:

  • Located at 19 Vendue Range, Charleston, SC 29401, The Vendue is in the heart of Charleston’s French Quarter and Art District.
  • Steps away from Waterfront Park, Charleston City Market, and Rainbow Row, along with other historic attractions, shopping, and dining.
  • Opening/lunch shift available.

Hourly Pay:

  • $3.50 per hour plus generous tips. Average $20-25 per hour with tips.
  • Full- and Part-time positions available. Overtime will be paid at time and a half for any hours over 40 in a week.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Rooftop is seeking highly motivated, energetic Bartenders with a desire to create memorable experiences for our guests.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Courteously greet bar guests, and promote and document orders for drinks and food. Mix, garnish, and present drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control. Keep track of all beverages served and create a check for each guest to maintain accountability for all beverages served. Execute all cocktail beverages for the serving team promptly.
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times, acknowledging guests and anticipating their needs. Expediently communicate any challenges, guest complaints, or requests.
  • Must adhere to all State, Federal, and company liquor regulations about serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests to ensure all laws are being followed.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas in compliance with company and DHEC standards.
  • Maintain proper and adequate set-up of the bar throughout the shift. Stock all beer, wine, spirits, glassware, paper products, straws, stirrers, condiments, and produce. Cut and store all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices, and other perishables to ensure product quality. Prepare and properly label large-batch drink mixes, juices, and simple syrup.
  • Practice "Teamwork" and "Clean as you Go" policies.
  • Work effectively and efficiently with other team members from all hotel’s departments.
  • Be familiar with all Hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.

Note that this is not an inclusive list and team members are at times asked to assist with other tasks to best serve the business. Other tasks may be assigned by the Rooftop General Manager or other managers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • 3 years of bartending experience. High-volume preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Familiar with the industry's best practices.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Commitment to guest satisfaction and service excellence.
  • Considerable knowledge of alcoholic beverages and service, as well as food preparation.
  • Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal supervision.
  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks. Ability to work under pressure, be calm, organized, self-motivated, and work well with others.
  • Basic mathematical and computer skills necessary to work with guest tickets, credit card transactions and cash. Ability to operate a keyboard and point-of-sale procedures to pre-check an order and close out a check.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills. Ability to read, speak and understand English in order to follow directions, and procedures, and communicate with the guests and team.
  • Ability to become TiPS certified within 30 days of employment. Course and certification paid by The Vendue.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Equipment to Be Used:

  • POS computer system
  • Bar utensils, soda gun, dishwasher, hand cart/dolly, glassware

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Maintain regular and punctual on-site attendance with the ability to work a flexible schedule which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays when business requires
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Frequently required to use hands and arms to reach and handle. Frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to handle equipment and utensils.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to adapt to an ever-changing and sometimes stressful work environment.

Work Environment:

  • High guest interaction, involving varying conditions and circumstances with guests, team members, and managers.
  • Fast-paced; high volume; team-oriented.
  • Work areas are covered, although outside, with variable and changing weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
