POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Program Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
STATUS: Part Time (15-25 hours/week)
SALARY: Hourly starting at $17/hour
Primary Function
Under the direction of the Director of Operations (DOO), the Program Coordinator assists in the planning, development, execution, and administration of all BASE programs with focus on Leadership & Team Development, Assisting DOO with Membership Outreach as needed, Member Support and Community Partnerships initiatives. The Summer Program Coordinator will be responsible for building relationships with community partners, volunteers, staff and program participants, drives awareness and participation in community programs, and seeks to provide new and innovative opportunities & support to children who need us most.
Leadership & Team Development
- Ensure effective staffing of BASE sites including staff training, supervision, and evaluation.
- Assist with performance management of assigned staff in achieving goals, providing technical assistance in program design, development, community relations and program operations.
- Effectively manage direct reports to ensure program staff perform their roles and responsibilities outlined in BASE’s operational standards.
- Will evaluate the program that the Summer Program Coordinator is implementing on a regular basis through the use of Program Observation Reports.
Membership Outreach (as needed)
- Support promotion of membership to a variety of families.
- Identify underserved populations of youth and help to create active outreach plans to increase participation in our programs.
- Ensure program outreach and registration materials are available in Spanish.
- Work with local School Districts and County Departments to identify families in need of childcare services.
Program Operations
- Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
- Oversee the implementation and delivery of operations, programs, services and activities that facilitate achievement of Youth Development Outcomes: Monitor engagement and participation of BASE kids in core program areas.
- Ensure programs and activities have a clear vision and have widely understood short-term and long-term plans. Written goals and objectives are established through a collaborative process and support the overall mission of BASE.
- The Program Coordinator will complete Program Observation Reports and work with the Directors to evaluate site programs and site staff and volunteers.
- Community service is emphasized and members regularly participate in service-learning opportunities.
- Program activities include frequent opportunities for the inclusion and support of parents of BASE members.
- Assist with planning and implementing a variety of special program events including field trips and monthly recognition events for BASE kids.
- Achieve program goals and objectives, especially those conveyed within grants and through community partners and funders.
Member Support
- The Program Coordinator provides guidance to all BASE staff members, BASE kids, and volunteers.
- Provide support to all BASE families during their time as a member.
- Execute all recognition initiatives including Summer BASE Kid of the Week.
- The Program Coordinator must be able to recognize challenging situations and have the ability to assess and diffuse the situations appropriately, assisting staff in employing effective and consistent skills.
- The Program Coordinator will assist with one-on-one sessions with BASE kids for problem solving and conflict resolution when required.
- The Program Coordinator should always be conscious to encourage positive values and ethical behaviors. The Program Coordinator should strive to model these values and behaviors not only while working at BASE but outside of BASE as well.
- Facilitate BASE Behavior Support Systems.
- Monitor member behavior incidents and develop member behavior plans as needed. Communicate with families on behavior incidents.
Community Partnerships
- Implement a vibrant volunteer culture that creates meaningful experiences for volunteers and BASE members.
- Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families and community organizations.
- Photos and stories are provided for BASE online platforms on a weekly basis.
- Attend all BASE fundraising events if asked.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of two years work experience in organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
- Considerable knowledge of youth development principles, behavior management, guidance, outcomes evaluation, collaboration, and program management.
- Ability to deal effectively with members, including discipline problems.
- Demonstrated ability to direct multiple program operations, the recruitment and retention of key personnel; facilities management and budget management.
- Ability to organize and coordinate multiple demanding tasks and responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and with creativity.
- Substantial oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a large number of organizations and individuals.
