POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Support Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Programs & Operations
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator
STARTING WAGE: Hourly starting at $13/hour
KEY ROLES:
Program Planning
- The Support Specialist will assist in planning, organizing and facilitating youth programs and activities.
- Programs should incorporate educational components and facilitate the achievement of the Youth Development Outcomes.
- A range of programs should be available to appeal to all ages, genders and cultural backgrounds.
- The Support Specialist will assist in developing weekly and monthly program plans, and will personally and with Summer Program Coordinator, Summer Coordinator, Director of Operations, and/or Executive Director, evaluate the programs that he/she is implementing on a regular basis. The programs should follow the weekly theme in a creative manner.
- The Support Specialist will respect and meet all program deadlines set by the Summer Program Coordinator, Summer Coordinator, Director of Operations and/or Executive Director.
Safe & Positive BASE Site Environment
- The Support Specialist must ensure a respectful, responsible, safe, and positive BASE environment for all BASE kids at all times. This includes programs that the Support Specialist is running as well as the surrounding visible areas and any other area within the Support Specialist’s range of senses.
- The Support Specialist should ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and that it is being used in its intended manner.
- The Support Specialist will show a positive and inspirational attitude at BASE for staff, BASE kids, parents and families, and community members.
Program Implementation
- The Support Specialist is personally involved in programming and demonstrates high levels of enthusiasm towards BASE kids and visitors while encouraging participation.
- The Support Specialist should constantly praise BASE kids for good efforts and provide constructive feedback to ensure they get the most out of every experience.
Member Support
- The Support Specialist provides guidance to all BASE kids.
- The Support Specialist must be able to recognize challenging situations and have the ability to assess and diffuse the situations appropriately or seek assistance from the Summer Coordinator or Director of Operations.
- The Support Specialist will assist with one-on-one sessions with BASE kids for problem solving and conflict resolution when required.
- The Support Specialist should always be conscious to encourage positive values and ethical behaviors. The Support Specialist should strive to model these values and behaviors not only while working at BASE but outside of BASE as well.
Administration
- The Support Specialist will adhere to the BASE systems of data collection and record keeping.
- The Support Specialist will be consistent with the safety reporting systems and guidelines.
- The Support Specialist will adhere to the BASE Social Media Policy and all BASE Policies & Procedures.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE RECOMMENDED:
- High school diploma or GED/18 years old
- If still in high school, must be a junior or senior
- First Aid and CPR Certifications
- Experience working with youth
- Basic problem solving skills
- Good communication skills
- Valid State Driver's License preferred
- Mandatory Reporting Webinar completion certificate
