SALARY RANGE: 136,406.40 - 211,411.20YEARLY
General Summary:
A Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MHNP) in Oncology is a specialized healthcare professional who provides comprehensive mental health care to outpatient patients undergoing cancer treatment. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients' psychological and emotional needs, working in collaboration with oncologists and other healthcare providers to ensure holistic patient care.
Responsibilities:
1. Patient Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct thorough psychological assessments of oncology patients to identify mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.
2. Therapeutic Interventions: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that include counseling, psychotherapy, and psychoeducation to support patients' mental well-being.
3. Medication Management: Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications when necessary, ensuring safe and effective use in conjunction with cancer treatments.
4. Collaboration with Oncology Team: Work closely with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care plans that address both physical and mental health needs.
5. Patient and Family Education: Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding mental health issues related to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
6. Monitoring and Follow-Up: Regularly monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal mental health outcomes.
7. Crisis Intervention: Address acute mental health crises and provide immediate support and intervention to patients experiencing severe distress.
8. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
9. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
- Education: Master Degree Nursing; A specialization in Psychiatric-Mental Health is required.
- Credential(s): Registered Nurse; Nurse Practitioner; Nurse Practitioner - Controlled Substances Registration; Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification
- Experience: Required: Three (3) years' practicing as a full-time MHNP.
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
- Education: Doctorate Degree Nursing
- Credential(s):
- Experience: Preferred: Five (5) years' practicing as a full-time MHNP
