About the Position:
We are seeking passionate outdoor and leadership mentors to guide students through enriching experiences in our Outdoor and Leadership Adventures courses. The Outdoor Adventures course is an in-person, experiential PE class offered for students in grades 6–12. Participants engage in hands-on activities such as rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, snowshoeing, skiing, survival skills, first aid, outdoor games, and more.
The Leadership Adventures course focuses on developing students' leadership abilities through immersive, real-world experiences. Students earn elective leadership credit by participating in activities such as visiting museums and colleges, going on field trips, completing service projects, and practicing leadership through simulations and group challenges.
- This position will start at the end of July.
Adventure Guides will be responsible for facilitating transformational learning experiences. They will be trained on the Williamsburg formula for infusing each experience with meaning. Guides must be comfortable participating in discussions and processing before, during, and after an activity. They are required to attend all online and in-person trainings as a requirement of this position.
Responsibilities include inspiring, challenging, and engaging students. Roaming Guides will support different groups throughout the semester, responding to each group's varying needs. They will also be available for last-minute substitutions if a lead or guide is unavailable due to illness.
Adventures Guides must follow the direction of Adventures Leads to ensure student safety. They will support Adventures Leads in overseeing the safety of students between drop-off and pick-up. Guides report to the Adventures Leads in each respective geographical area.
Represent WL in a Positive Manner During all Activities/Trips
Adventures Guides should conduct themselves so that they earn the full trust of the group by serving as role models to students and fostering a sense of belonging among them at each adventure.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years old AND 1 full year post high-school
- Outdoor and leadership experience preferred
- Current first aid & CPR certification
- Valid and current driver's license
- Excellent administrative skills (planning, organizing, communication)

- Pass background check
- Adventures Guides must be able to use various programs (SIS, Canvas, Zoom, Abacus, google suite); you will be trained on these
Physical Abilities
- This position requires physical agility and stamina.
- Walking, hiking, running, standing, lifting, and bending will be a routine part of this position.
- Employees will need to be able to keep visual cues on students and be able to hear them.
- Guides must be physically able to facilitate and lead students safely on adventures in various settings.
Benefits
- Pay rate is $3200 per school year.
- Mileage reimbursement.
- This is a part-time position, 5 hours per week, with most of the hours taking place on Adventure Fridays during normal school hours.
