What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solid Waste Transfer Truck Driver/Transfer Station position at Becker County?

QUALIFICATIONS:
1) High school diploma or GED;
2) One year of truck experience;
3) Valid CDL- Class A Driver’s License; without restrictions
4) Must be able to independently make decisions on truck routing and to be able to work with the public.
5) Negative pre-employment drug test (continue to be subject to drug testing per Federal CDL law).

DUTIES:

  • Operate semi-truck and walking floor trailers or other trailers that are used to transfer waste commodities or other materials to different disposal sites or locations as directed. The operator is responsible for analyzing routing to determine most effective and efficient routing and completing all required load documentation to successfully complete hauling operations. The operator is responsible for completing equipment safety inspections each day, complete light equipment maintenance and coordinate scheduled maintenance as directed by the Transfer Station Manager.
  • Operate front load compactor truck used to collect and haul recyclable waste products and/or other commodities as directed.
  • Assist the Transfer Station Manager in opening, closing, and the operation of Becker County waste collection facilities, which consist of:
    • Inspecting incoming loads of waste materials and directing the proper disposal of the waste. Recommends options for the correct disposal for banned materials.
    • Operates and helps maintain all equipment at the facility. This includes a semi-truck & trailer, compactor, skid steer loader, rubber-tired pay loader, truck scale, computers, and various hand tools.
    • Responsible for the general maintenance, repair, and janitorial activities of the transfer station facility building and grounds.
    • Performs other tasks of similar nature as directed by the Transfer Station Manager or the Land Use Director.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
$24.30-$31.71 per hour, depending on experience. This position is eligible for a wide range of competitive benefits, including state pension plan, vacation time, sick time, personal and holiday leave time in accordance with their specific union contract. In addition, the position is eligible for the County's health plan, consisting of three health plans and carrier options; Dental, Vision, and Life insurance; Health Savings and Flexible Spending accounts; Long-term and Short-Term Disability; Supplemental Accident, Hospital, and Critical Illness plans; and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. The County contributes monthly health benefits to aide in the rising of insurance costs with the contribution rate evaluated annually. Additionally, employees have the option to take part of this $749.14 contribution as cash in lieu of benefits.
