The Sr Project Manager is a member of the Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) Performance Improvement Operations (PIO) team, a system-level internal consulting group dedicated to supporting high-priority initiatives at the system, hospital, and practice levels. Responsible for collaborating with system and facility business partners and directing several complex projects simultaneously by utilizing the tools, techniques and methodology of professional project management fundamentals to meet the current and anticipated needs of the organization. Achieves operational objectives by preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; and implementing change.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:
1.    Manages complex projects and responds quickly to changing issues and priorities involving multiple departments and stakeholders. Develops solutions that are feasible, cost-effective and acceptable to the present stakeholders. (essential)

2.    Provides subject matter expertise for project management to project teams. Attends project team meetings to provide guidance, mentoring and coaching staff on the day-to-day project management methods (essential)

3.    Mentors adherence to project management standards and practices. Reviews team members project deliverables and ensures their work is in-line with project management best practice. (essential)

4.    Facilitates the project team leader discussion to define the process for identifying and documenting issues in a project and recommending corrective action. Takes the lead in the issue resolution process and identifies project priorities when resolving issues. Communicates the status of issue management activities to project team members and organization stakeholders. (essential)

5.    Manages project portfolio. Drives organizational change taking full account of obstacles, opposition, and differing stakeholder priorities. Acts as a champion for business process changes; acts behind the scenes to craft solutions for business problems related or tangential to the project. (essential)

6.    Demonstrates superior collaboration skills and techniques which appropriately define alternate solutions and create lasting, productive partnerships with clients. Actively participates in cross-functional groups to solve problems across projects. Utilizes a network of relationships to collect and disseminate information, build support, and secure buy-in for desired objectives. (essential)

7.    Provides leadership, vision and direction setting for both project team and business partners. Uses knowledge of mission and core strategies as a basis to develop specific objectives and goals. Serves as a project management expert, resource and key advisor to business partners. (essential)

8.    Demonstrates a high level of personal and professional integrity. Possesses a strong work ethic with the ability to take initiative, as well as work collaboratively and contribute to a positive team environment. (essential)

9.    Works with high degree of independence, while possessing strong judgment as to when to escalate concerns to executive leadership. (essential)

Additional Responsibilities:
1.    All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
1.    Bachelor's degree in Business, Organizational Management, Industrial Engineering, Nursing, or related required. Master's degree  in Business Administration preferred.
2.    8-10 years related work experience required in project management. 3 years experience in health care setting preferred. Preference for candidate with experience in health care operations or consulting in: Strategic planning, operations management, quality improvement, process improvement..
3.    Demonstrated leadership ability with a proven track record of bringing complex projects to successful completion on time and on budget.
4.    Demonstrated change agent, self-starter and team player. Able to work independently and handle multiple priorities. Capable of leading the charge (sometimes from behind) and thinking "out of the box". Comfortable challenging the status quo while able to work diplomatically to keep stakeholders engaged.
5.    Role model for integrating quality customer service skills, leadership and communications skills when interfacing with colleagues.
6.    Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

2.    Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, requiring staff input, innovative, creative, and Lean diagnostic techniques to resolve issues.

3.    Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.

4.    Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

5.    Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

6.    Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations.

7.    Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.

8.    Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Social/Environmental Requirements:
1.    Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

2.    Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.

3.    No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions

4.    Health Care Status:  NHCW: No patient contact.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Sensory Requirements:
Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual monotony, Visual clarity > 20 feet, Visual clarity <3 feet, Conversation, Telephone.

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
