Human Resource Generalist
Job Summary
The Human Resource Generalist will assist with the daily functions of the Human Resource department including recruiting, onboarding, leave, company policies and practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist as needed with recruiting.
- Work with team to evaluate recruiting sources and selections based on analyzing applicants and new hires.
- Could be asked to help organize and attend job fairs and other networking opportunities.
- Schedule safety training and testing for all new hires.
- Completes pre-employment screening.
- Send offer letters.
- Onboard all new hires.
- DOT FMCSA Clearinghouse (adding new employees and annual queries).
- Add new employees to random DOT drug pool.
- Assist the Safety department with coordinating random drug tests.
- Schedule medical card appointments for employees and connect medical cards to their licenses.
- Respond and track all unemployment claims and work with the Compliance Manager on necessary litigation.
- Process terminations and work with the Compliance Manager on employee investigations when necessary.
- Process promotions/compensation changes.
- Employment verifications (DOT and financial).
- W-4, K-4, and direct deposit changes.
- Process annual MVRs.
- Maintain DOT files.
- Contractual training.
- Point of contact for employees.
- Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
- Proofread and type documents and correspondence produced by department.
- Assist with the preparation of human resources reports such as active employees, new hires, current wages, and turnover reports.
- Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Develop communication tools to enhance understanding between company departments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with aptitude in conducting interviews.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Understanding of EEO, ADA, and other related employment laws and guidelines.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
- Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of the onboarding/offboarding process.
- Ability to understand, evaluate, and make judgment on the overall hiring process.
- Knowledge of contract language.
- Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending and Social Security and DOL requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Teams.
- Proficient in any HRIS software.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field preferred.
- At least two years of human resources or related experience required.
- PHR or SHRM-CP preferred.
