The Development Land Manager is based in Houston, TX, and reports to the VP, of Land and Land Administration. This position requires extensive leadership experience and a deep understanding of land development as it relates to upstream oil and gas, negotiation, and management, as well as the ability to effectively manage a team of land professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Land Development and Negotiation:
  • Support the identification of prospective land assets for potential acquisition or lease.
  • Direct negotiations with landowners, mineral rights owners, and other stakeholders to secure land rights and agreements for the development of company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements throughout the land development process.
  • Collaborate with the land development team to develop strategies for resolving issues or for successfully executing development plans.
  • Land Development Management and Title Work:
  • Oversee the management of land-related milestones within the good readiness cycle to ensure the execution of company plans and objections.
  • Support title research and curative actions to set up clear ownership and resolve any title issues.
  • Oversee the management of external resources, including surveyors, title attorneys, and field land brokers to meet milestones within the well readiness cycle.
  • Collaborate with operations and subsurface management teams to ensure strategic alignment during the planning and execution phases of developing company assets.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Supervise and mentor a team of land professionals, including Landmen and Surface Landmen directly involved with the development of company assets.
  • Supply guidance, training, and performance feedback to perfect team performance and professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, transparent, and cohesive work environment to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Contract Management:
  • Review contracts, agreements, and legal documents related to land and title curative, joint ventures, trades, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure contracts align with company aims and mitigate potential risks.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management:
  • Cultivate positive relationships with landowners, industry peers, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively to address concerns, negotiate terms, and keep productive partnerships.
  • Budgeting and Cost Management:
  • Manage land’s budget and forecast of drilling projects while ensuring compliance with financial goals and ensuring informed decision-making on land activity.
  • Reporting:
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for company management and stakeholders about land-related matters.
  • Prepare cost actual and outlook reports of land drilling projects for management.
  • Risk Management and Compliance:
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and industry best practices to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Implement risk management strategies to safeguard the company's interests in land-related transactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum Land Management, Business Administration, or a related field, needed.
  • Proven leadership experience in land management within the oil and gas industry. 8 years’ experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of land acquisition, leasing, title examination, and contract negotiation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of land professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Exceptional communication and people skills for effective stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess risks, make informed decisions, and develop strategic solutions.
  • Ability in industry-specific software and tools for land management, title research, and contract analysis. Direct land experience and knowledge of Texas land are needed.
  • CPL Certification, preferred.
  • Member of AAPL, needed.
  • Knowledge and experience with P2Land, Land Vantage, Aucerna, and project planning systems preferred.
