Perioperative Registered Nurse - PRN POSITION

The Perioperative Registered Nurse performs nursing care for the patient during all episodes of the operative experience. The Perioperative Nurse candidate has the knowledge and compassion to provide nursing care to meet patient needs related to the admission process for Pre-Op, circulating in the surgery suite, type of anesthesia administered, monitoring patient, and informing surgeon of observed complications. The candidate should possess the knowledge of recovery (PACU) process as recommended by ASPAN. The perioperative nurse assists with pre-admission screening of patients per guidelines as needed. Collects information and reviews chart prior to patient’s surgery date. Communicates with director, team members, surgeons, and CRNAs to ensure efficient ASC operation and optimal patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- RN with active license in Georgia
- BLS, ACLS, PALS at hire or within 90 days of hire
- Two years nursing experience
- Critical care experience, PACU and/or Circulating experience highly preferred
- Previous use of electronic charting
- Knows regulatory requirements for patient care during the perioperative experience
- Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity
- Knowledge of orthopedic surgical procedures and patient care needs
- Experience in preoperative and postoperative education and instruction, preferred
- Highly organized and astute attention for detail
RESPONSIBILITIES NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Obtains pertinent patient records prior to patient’s arrival
- Order and perform necessary preoperative testing, report abnormal testing to surgeon and CRNA
- Obtains necessary signatures, explains informed consent for surgery, explains patient’s responsibilities/rights, and preoperative/postoperative instructions
- Documents fully according to policy and regulatory requirements
- Maintains and enforces asepsis and sterile awareness as needed
- Reviews patients' medical records/needs to plan care with other healthcare team members
- Explains intraoperative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient
- Performs the circulating nurse's role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures
- Prepares operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed
- Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies, and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure
- Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia
- Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures
- Provides patient care to all patients which includes administering medications, starting IVs, prep the surgical area with hair clipping and antiseptic skin cleaner
- Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered
- Ability to assess patient’s recovery and determine if capable of being discharged to home or a higher level of care
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Performs additional duties as requested by Manager or Team Leader/Supervisor
