Job Description
The Senior & Scientific Advisor’s primary focus is on supporting Dr. Claussnitzer’s scientific work. To do so, they will help guide the group’s scientific direction, oversee its scientific activities, implement effective scientific plans, move projects toward publication, provide input to Dr. Claussnitzer on any major lab or project decisions, assist in managing lab finances and writing grants, and mentor members of the lab. The Scientific Advisor will act as Dr. Claussnitzer’s representative within the lab, at the Broad, and as a representative of the lab to the outside world, and work to facilitate communications within the lab and with external stakeholders.
- Help in guiding the scientific direction research priorities of the lab to execute on the lab’s research goals
- Oversee the group’s scientific activities and give input to help projects reach their goals according to expected timelines.
- Provide input to Melina before all major lab or project decisions are made, including strategy, finance, personnel, and communication of vision; facilitate implementation of these changes
- Oversight of lab finance and personnel operations
- Create, monitor, and implement effective scientific plans; plays a major role in identifying project scope and assembling research team members.
- Conduct regular 1-1 meetings with Melina to offer feedback, discuss complex issues
- Mentoring of trainees (grad students, post-docs) in alignment with Melina’s goals.
- Move scientific projects forward towards clear presentation-, and publication-oriented outcomes, and keep them directed toward our shared scientific goals.
- Identify ‘struggling’ team members in the lab and develop a strategy together of how to enable underperforming team members to perform in their projects
- Act as Melina’s representative in meetings within the group, & within the Broad when necessary, and representing the group to the outside world.
- Contribute to fundraising through strategizing and managing grant applications
- Assist in planning and writing grants, project proposals, progress reports and scientific publications.
- Ensuring communication and connectivity across units within the lab, with stakeholders at Broad internally and externally
