SUMMARY
Provides ordered respiratory care and ventilatory management and support to residents.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of an associate degree from a respiratory therapy education program 1) supported or accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), or 2) accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and graduated on or before November 11, 2009.; and three to six months related experience and/or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
ESSENTIAL FUCNTIONS
- Maintains life support systems.
- Assures accuracy of equipment through calibrations, adjustments and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of resident's on-going status and communicates completely during shift report.
- Assists with plan of care indicating ventilatory findings and parameters.
- Performs therapeutic procedures.
- Completes assigned workload and various responsibilities of total resident care.
- Performs special procedures
- Initiates and/or assists with CPR when necessary.
- Provides adequate oxygenation and ventilation and maintains patent airway during transports.
- Performs tracheostomy tube changes and maintenance.
- Rotates through and functions proficiently in all resident care areas.
- Accepts work assignment on any shift and in any area assigned.
- Performs all shift-specific duties assigned.
- Acts as a resource person for new employees.
- Assists with meeting resident's daily needs by assisting with baths, diaper changes and other activities as needed.
- Recognizes and reports any changes in clinical status.
- Responds appropriately to all emergency situations.
- Maintains accurate medical and departmental records.
- Completes documents in medical records after performing procedure.
- Labels all equipment circuitry when changed.
- Clearly labels malfunctioning equipment.
- Performs equipment changes, cleaning, disinfection and maintenance as required.
- Organizes and restocks supplies.
- Attends continuing education offerings as required for licensure.
- Participates on facility committees/meetings.
- Follows infection control policies & procedures.
