Campus Safety Supervisor

POSITION TITLE: Supervisor

Supervises the staff assigned to a particular shift; ensures that Officers perform duties in a professional manner. Shift is 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Checks and secures exits of residence halls and campus buildings

* Conducts foot and mobile patrol of 130 acre campus

* Turns on /off exterior campus lights and burglar alarms as dictated by shift instructions

* Responds in a quick and efficient manner to calls from dispatcher re:

- investigate suspicious activity

- breakups disturbances

- obtains vital information on unlawful acts committed on campus

- responds to security alarms on campus

* Opens buildings and rooms as instructed

* Provides medical transportation on emergency and out-patient basis

* Handles fire drills and alarms on a needs basis

* Completes incident reports in a clear, concise, and professional manner

* Performs supervisory related duties requiring use of discretion and independent judgment; assigns work, coordinates work flow. Assists the Director in hiring, discipline and training.

* Act as intermediary between security officers and Director Re: Chain of Command.

* Performs other job-related duties as assigned or directed

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY:

* Follows established work routines; periodic checks for professional manner performance; questions substandard conditions and situations

* Work is subject to a general review

* Errors result in loss of time, money and may affect reputation of the College. Errors may endanger the safety and security of students, staff, visitors and the security of campus buildings

* Internal and external contacts involving routine and moderately complicated issues which may require tact and diplomacy

* Exposure to deadlines and pressure

* Exposure to items such as loud noises uncomfortable temperatures and physical effort involving standing and walking for extended periods of times

* Instructions received from supervisor on a daily basis to supplement normal work schedule. Instructions in oral or written format, officers required to check events clipboard each shift

* Officers must be capable of handling disturbances, and other potentially violent and difficult situations in a professional, safe manner.

* Supervises security officers/dispatcher assigns, verifies, Schedules work determining quality/quantity standards. Trains new staff

* Provides director with recommendations on selection, promotion, transfer and discharge decisions

SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

* Excellent hearing/speaking ability

* Ability to walk steps

* Ability to walk campus in extreme temperature and weather conditions

* Ability to stand for long periods of time

* Ability to lift 50 lb.

* Ability to read and follow written instructions

* Ability to lawfully operate a class 6 vehicle

* Ability to compose correspondence and incident reports

* CPR and First Aid training

* Self-defense training

* Crime prevention training

* Valid drivers license

* Three year experience in security field in residential College/University environment or any combination of education, experience and knowledge which would product the necessary skills and abilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $18.50 per hour
