Position Summary:
This position exists to support production of aluminum fishing boats by supplying departments with clean, high quality, painted hulls.
The starting hourly pay rate for this position is $26.42 to 28.06
Responsibilities:
- Read and follow engineering drawings, specifications, work orders, SWIs and safety data sheets.
- Conduct paint equipment start up, set-up and shutdown, including air permit inspections, equipment inspections, color mixing, boat preparation and equipment and booth cleaning.
- Gather parts and materials according to the production schedule, order specifications and rework log.
- Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with templates and gauges to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Detect and escalate faulty operation of equipment, defective materials and production misses.
- Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment as assigned.
- Operate overhead hoist while always following safety requirements and operating procedures.
- Position and secure workpieces using overhead hoists, mechanical devices or manual manipulation.
- Mark or tag material with proper identifiers.
- Clean work area and maintain walkways free of litter and clutter, clean machines, sweep aluminum chips and other debris, keep personal effects stored appropriately.
- Participate in daily morning meetings including stretching activities, assist with incident investigations, continuous improvement initiatives, and quality improvements.
- Follow all internal processes and procedures including incident reporting, rework escalation, and stop-call-wait.
- Assist in training other employees on equipment and department procedures, engage in effective conversations with team members and leaders, escalate and discuss issues or potential issues to leads and supervisors.
- Aid in other areas as needed.
Required Competencies:
- Knowledge and ability to adjust spray guns as needed to achieve desired results.
- Demonstrate the skill necessary to apply primer, basecoat and clearcoat to meet quality specifications.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill to take MIL readings ensuring proper coat thickness.
- Demonstrated ability to learn to use 2k proportioning machine
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill necessary to mix paint according to manufacturers instructions.
- Demonstrated ability and skill to prepare surfaces for painting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to take necessary viscosity readings.
- Ability to wear respiratory protection and be medically certified.
- Ability to paint in multiple positions including standing, kneeling, bending, twisting and crouching.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- At least one year of demonstrated skill in employment of painting aluminum components using wet systems to a high quality finish.
Preferred:
Experience in automotive finishing
Experience with quality systems in a customer driven manufacturing environment.
Work environment:
Kneeling, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, reaching with weight, squatting, climbing stairs, exposure to heat, exposure to noise. May spend time outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
