What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Accountant position at Build-A-Bear?
The primary purpose of this position is to manage the company's sales and use tax compliance, ensure timely and accurate preparation of personal property tax return, prepare non-income tax account reconciliations, prepare Build-A-Bear Foundation's financial statements, assist with preparation of federal and state income tax returns, and assist with other various projects in the department.
Responsibilities:
- Work with outsourcing partner to file personal property tax returns, pay bills and search for tax savings.
- Assist with personal property tax audits by taxing jurisdictions.
- Work with the Senior Tax Manager to maintain the Company's sales and use tax compliance.
- Work with outsourcing partner to timely and accurately file returns.
- Address notices and assist with sales tax audits by taxing jurisdictions.
- Prepare accruals and account reconciliations for non-income tax accounts within the responsibility of the Tax Department.
- Assist with the preparation of federal and state income tax returns.
- Assist Senior Tax Accountant with tax depreciation calculations.
- Prepare the Company's Foundation financial statements including recording monthly journal entries and tracking of revenues and donations. Prepare the annual Form 990 and work with auditors to complete audit of the financial statements.
- Assist with other miscellaneous filings and projects in the Tax Department.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required; Masters of Taxation preferred
- A minimum of one year of related work experience with a public accounting or publicly traded company is required; 2-3 years preferred
- CPA certification or eligible preferred
- Experience with Vertex preferred
- Ability to document and support conclusions
- Excellent computer and systems skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft 365)
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ease with numbers
- Strong analytical reasoning abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Flexible and adaptable to change
- Planning and organizing skills
