What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutritionist position at Cabarrus Health Alliance?
Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, occasional evenings
Hiring Range: $20.00 - $21.50/hour
CHA requires employees to be up to date on all vaccines, including flu and COVID vaccines, and provides vaccination for staff. Vaccines must be up to date, or you must be willing to update them upon hire.
The Nutritionist provides nutritional assessments, certifications and counseling for pregnant and postpartum women, infants and children who may be eligible for the WIC Program.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conducts nutrition assessments using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary and socio-economical information
- Provides nutrition counseling
- Utilizes NC WIC Crossroads electronic system for data entry and certification of participants
- Makes referrals to other health care providers
- Weighs and measures participants
- Issues food benefits
- Promotes breastfeeding through outreach, education and issuing supplies
Education/Experience: Candidates should provide documentation of their Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) program or provide proof of current registration as a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and have a Bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university or a Bachelor's of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university or a Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition or Applied Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university or provide registration status as an RD/RDN from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
- Ability to assess and analyze nutritional issues and utilize counseling skills
- Must be able to deliver nutrition education programs and communicate with individuals and small groups
- Thorough knowledge of maternal, child and infant nutrition and breastfeeding
- Considerable relevant medical terminology
- General knowledge of behavior change theory and learning theory
