What are the responsibilities and job description for the RWP Early Intervention Specialist position at CAMC Health System?

The RWP Early Intervention Specialist will engage with individuals at high-risk for HIV infection related to injecting drug use providing HIV screening, health education, and risk reduction counseling, and linkage to care - including HIV and substance disorder treatment -and access to HIV prevention services.

Responsibilities

1. Work with nursing staff to identify individuals at risk for HIV via IDU (answer yes to any of the 3 screening questions at intake and/or related admitting condition - infectious diseases complication/overdose 2. For these clients: A. Perform rapid HIV screening (first and if necessary, second confirmatory, finger stick test) and immediate linkage to HIV care services in the Ryan White Program Outpatient Care Center. B. Report positive confirmatory screening results to WV Bureau of Public Health/Disease Intervention Specialist for follow-up and partner/needle using network notification and HIV Screening. C. Provide education about safe injection practices. D. Refer for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) if at high-risk for sexual transmission of HIV. E. Facilitate at-risk or HIC positive clients' medical and psychological needs including but not limited to available local harm reduction programs, social support services, and substance use disorder treatment, including medication-assisted treatment (i.e. behavioral health services and support combined with buprenorphine or naltrexone) F. Assist in crisis intervention and counseling of client, family members and/or partner(s) as needed. 3. Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly reports in a timely fashion that include, but are not limited to summaries of services provided, barriers experienced and success stories. 4. Develop and maintain working relationships with local partner agencies, such as Covenant House, Manna Meal, KCHD, and WV Health Right. 5. Report to Program Director/Manager during regularly scheduled meetings and as needed to improve delivery of services to clients. Keep PD informed of all problems, challenges and conflicts related to job. 6. Participate in all staff and community meetings as scheduled. 7. Adhere to strict procedures of confidentiality, release of information and data security.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's Degree (Required) Education: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health Experience: 1 year related experience
