What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Surveyor position at Capstone Mining?

Reporting to the Mine Engineering Superintendent, the Chief Surveyor is responsible for conducting surveys, analyzing the data, and providing survey control and documentation for PV site operations. They are also responsible for helping to manage some mine and dump related projects.

  • Work with Tailings and Water, Projects and Studies, Mine Manager, Mine Engineering Superintendent, Drill & Blast Engineer, Sr. Mine Engineer, Short Term Planner, Mine Ops. Supervisors, and Mine Geologist

  • Work with contractors and vendors

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned
  • Manage, engage, and enable the Survey team to deliver against performance targets
  • Responsible for computing data necessary for shaping and connecting roadways and mine benches to control direction and extent of mining operation
  • Survey and calculate volumes of material deposits, spoil piles, or ore locations, and amount of overburden to be removed
  • Drafts or directs others to draft maps of survey data
  • Survey, analyze and create reports for month and year end surveys
  • Manage pit design compliance and report to Engineer group
  • Manage mining compliance to plan and report to Engineering group
  • Directs survey technicians and helpers in use of electronic surveying equipment, light emitting systems, or other instruments to transfer surface survey positions and directions to mine areas and to survey assigned sections
  • Provides input into short and long-term planning
  • Responsible for coordinating surveying services for the Mine Dept., Planning Dept., Mill, Environmental Dept., hydrology, Operations Support Dept., special projects, and contract surveyors as needed in providing timely information
  • Responsible for developing and managing surveying budget
  • Responsible for keeping time sheets and vacation records
  • Responsible for ordering needed supplies and equipment
  • Continually performing the field survey work for the pit and outline projects
  • Provide regular progress updates for mine, waste dump and other earth moving projects
  • Scope, manage, organize, and direct Mine and waste dump projects as required
  • Seek out and employ mine efficiency improvement projects pertaining to the road network, stockpiles, pit design and dumps
  • Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required


POSITION REQUIREMENTS


  • Understands drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence
  • Detailed knowledge of theories and practices in open pit mining surveying and substantial knowledge of related surveying practices
  • Detailed knowledge of surveying tools and technologies used in open pit mining
  • Knowledge of surface and volumetric calculations using software applications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Surveying, preferably open pit.
  • At least 4 years as an expert or professional in surveying
  • At least 2 years of experience in a mine surveyor supervisory role, managing 2 to 4 crew personnel
  • Intermediate to above average computer skills (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook)
  • Knowledge with surveying software (AutoCAD, Maptek iSite, Maptek Vulcan, Propeller)
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English


WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • 30% of the Chief Surveyor’s time will be spent in the field while 70% of the remaining time will be spent in data analysis and working with Mine Technical Services and Mine Operations peer managers and superintendents

Salary : $57,700 - $73,100
