Summary  

The Lead Summer Assistant (LSA) position will mirror the tasks of other Summer Assistants for the site and will have additional responsibilities involving the preparation, organization and management of tasks while also ensuring complete customer satisfaction from the beginning to end of all summer stays. The LSA will oversee managing the room cleaning lists, confirming preparation of key packets for arriving groups and individuals and other administrative tasks required to ensure a smooth operation of summer housing. The LSA will also be involved in all phases of the conference operation including, but not limited to, assisting with conference preparation, check-in, and check-out, assembling key packets, preparing client materials, light cleaning in rooms, some maintenance tasks (maintenance tasks including but not limited to bed raising/lowering), preparing linen packets and handling (washing/drying/folding) linen.   

Essential Duties:   

  • Be available to interact with residents/guests in the residence halls.   
  • Coordinate with Assistant Director on cleaning list for cleaners.
  • Organize fobs, key packets based on group and arrival dates for individuals.
  • Communicate anticipated weekend/holiday arrivals with Summer Assistants.
  • Prepare courtesy rooms for guests as needed.
  • Monitor linen packets to ensure availability for groups.
  • Manage daily tasks of other SCAs to ensure seamless check in/turn of rooms.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as filing, copying, answering phones, making calls and data entry. 
  • Work closely with the Conference staff to ensure quality service for summer school students and conference guests.   
  • Assist with the check-in/out process for summer residents/guests including preparing keys/welcome letters prior to arrival and greeting residents/guests upon arrival.   
  • Assist in turnover of rooms which includes linen placement/removal.
  • Serve as a liaison between guests and the custodial and maintenance staff about completing custodial and maintenance requests.
  • Post/remove notices and information as needed.
  • Take part in an "on-call" duty system (5:00 p.m. - 8:30 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and weekday holidays) on a rotating basis. 
  • Report all incidents to the appropriate on-call professional staff member.   
  • Complete Room Inspection and Room Inventory as assigned.
  • Process all paperwork in a timely, neat, and efficient manner.   
  • Complete mandatory COCM Online training.
  • Attend any required staff meetings   
  • Check UMass Boston e-mail at least once per day during summer employment.  
  • Uphold and abide by the policies and procedures in the UMass Boston Resident Handbook and Student Code of Conduct.   
  • On occasions may assist with low skilled maintenance/cleaning tasks as needed/assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must be a University of Massachusetts Boston undergraduate student at time of application.

Work Hours  

Work approximately 25 hours each week in addition to being part of a rotational overnight and weekend duty schedule. 12 of these hours will be dedicated to administrative tasks in the office.

The staff member on-call must always remain within 15 minutes of campus, must respond to all calls, must sleep on campus, and must conduct daily and/or nightly rounds in all buildings.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Compensation

Single occupancy room (no roommate) within the residence halls in exchange for overnight and rotating weekend duty. Office hours totaling 25 hours/week will be compensated at a rate between $20-$22 per hour. The contract will begin May 23, 2025, and end August 24, 2025. The LSA will be hired as summer staff by COCM and housing in the residence halls plus an hourly rate for office hours will be provided in exchange for 25 hours/week including overnight and rotating weekend duty. Utilities and WiFi are also included.
