Overview:
Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School (CMCCS) is a dynamic and nurturing K-5 public charter school committed to academic excellence, equity, and whole-child development. We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging Science Teacher (10-month employee) to lead inquiry-based science instruction across elementary grades, with an emphasis on preparing 5th grade students for the New York State Science Exam.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)- aligned science lessons that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and hands-on discovery.
- Design and implement science instruction for Grades K–5, with targeted support and preparation for Grade 5 students taking the NYS Science Test.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and assessment tools to meet diverse learning needs and ensure academic success.
- Plan and facilitate engaging science experiments, lab activities, and STEM projects.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams to integrate science content into ELA and math where appropriate.
- Maintain a well-managed, organized, and stimulating classroom environment.
- Analyze student data to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions.
- Attend professional development sessions and grade-level planning meetings.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and upcoming science units or events.
- Support the school’s mission, values, and community-building efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- New York State Teaching Certification in Childhood Education (1–6) or Science.
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience preferred, ideally in an urban or charter school setting.
- Deep understanding of NYS Science Learning Standards and experience with the Grade 5 Science Test.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive classroom practices.
- Ability to foster a love for science and inquiry in young learners.
