Job Summary:
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality and food safety programs in a food manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, GFSI, etc.), customer expectations, and internal quality standards, while managing a team of QA professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the execution and maintenance of food safety and quality programs (HACCP, GMPs, SQF/BRC, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and other regulatory bodies.
- Manage internal audits and coordinate third-party or customer audits.
- Oversee quality control procedures and monitor product specifications, packaging, and labeling.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints and non-conformances.
- Train and manage the QA team; develop team competencies and performance.
- Collaborate with production, sanitation, and R&D teams to troubleshoot quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including SOPs, inspection reports, and product testing records.
- Analyze quality trends and initiate continuous improvement projects.
- Serve as the facility's Food Safety Team Leader and manage food safety plans.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.
- 5 years of QA experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- In-depth knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and food safety regulations.
- Experience with GFSI certification schemes (e.g., SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000).
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality management systems.
- HACCP and PCQI certification preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in both office and production environments.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, and occasionally lift to 25–50 lbs.
- Flexibility to weekends and work off-hours as needed for audits, production, or special projects.
