What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Scribe position at Caridad Center?
Position Summary: The medical scribe is responsible for performing all clerical and information technology functions for providers in the clinic setting. This individual will perform documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and gather information for the patient's visit.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Accompany physician and patient to the exam room to document visit details such as chief complaint, review of symptoms, history of present illness, physical examination, and assessment and plan into EMR system.
- Input order for prescriptions, labs, x-rays, and diagnostics tests through the EMR system as directed by the provider.
- After each shift, the provider must close the corresponding laboratory after a patient is seen.
- Transcribe medical dictation into medical records.
- Convey patient clinical information on behalf of the physician.
- Review patient chart for proper and complete documentation.
- Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents, and keeping patient information confidential.
- Must be able to help train all new volunteer medical scribes.
- Willingness to work as a team player, and flexibility with work schedule.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Must have a minimum of a high school diploma. A college degree or current enrollment in a degree program in the medical field is preferred 2-5 years' experience with an Electronic Medical Record system in a hospital or medical office setting.

- Proficiency in medical terminology
- Ability to stand, walk, and follow a physician for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to read, write, comprehend through listening.
- Evidence of ability to work with individuals of varied values and backgrounds.
- Must also be bilingual and culturally competent. English and Spanish are required, preferred trilingual (English, Spanish, and Creole).
