What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director for Students with Disabilities position at Central Falls School District?
General Description Of Duties:
Evaluation, Diagnosis, and Placement:
Assist the Director in supervising staff and coordinating all services related to:
Referral, evaluation, disability determination, and the IEP process.
Accurately reporting and updating all student information and the RIDE database program.
Assure students are appropriately placed in the least Restrictive Environments, including making sure all mandates are appropriate.
Serve as LEA for students placed out of the district.
Program Operations:
Responsible for co-coordinating with the director and with the building principal(s):
Special education referral process
Support services with all the different service providers in ensuring we are providing services in accordance with IEP or 504 plans.
Program reviews: redesign to meet student needs
Monitoring databases for compliance with IEPs, progress reports, Medicaid, disabilities, placements, etc.
Supporting the Child Outreach/Early Childhood Team with meetings as LEA.
The transition from EI to Preschool
Ensuring timelines are being followed for students ages 14-22 as they transition to adult services
Monitoring and supporting the transition services for ages 13 to 22 years old to be in compliance with the Descent Decree.
Attend RIDE sponsored meetings regarding transitions. Meet with staff at least quarterly regarding appropriate transition documents.
Create systems to:
To ensure all related services are appropriate
To ensure educators are effectively implementing programs, curriculum, and services for SwDs
To ensure all elements of compliance with IDEA are being met
That ensure clear and consistent high expectations for SwDs and the educators supporting them
Parent and Student Services:
Responsible for working with Director on Special Education Local Advisory Committee (SE-LAC)
Engaging with families with an understanding of services and rights.
Professional Development:
Responsible for developing and implementing professional development for service providers and/or contacting outside agencies to do so with the Director of SWD.
Create professional development opportunities with the director for teachers and support staff.
Curriculum:
Participating in curriculum development conversations with other district leaders and/or principals to ensure students with disabilities are provided core instruction AND specialized instruction.
Legal Issues:
Responsible for having current knowledge of the laws in matters relating to Special Education and 504 students’ primary focus of ensuring the district does not violate requirements.
Assist the director in working with families and education advocates on resolving issues related to special education.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of EEE for SWD or Superintendent.
