Job Summary/Purpose:
The EMT Lab Assistant is responsible to assist the paramedic course director in the education and evaluation of student performance in the lab experience.

- This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Temporary Hourly/Non-Benefited position
- Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
- COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
- The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.
- Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
- Effective Monday, April 18, 2022, COCC implemented a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for all employees, including benefited employees, part-time faculty, and temporary workers such as irregular wage, work study and community education. Essential Functions:
- Assist with instruction in the EMT course lab under the direction of the EMT course director/faculty member.
- Cooperate with other College personnel including the Paramedicine Program Director to assist students with career planning, job placement and follow-up studies.
- Perform other essential functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
- Thorough knowledge in the field of paramedicine within the field of out-of-hospital emergency medicine
- Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
- Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
- Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer-controlled mixed media presentations.
- Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
- Ability to verbally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Familiarity with and ability to remain in communication with the Program Director, Paramedic Lead Instructor and other program staff and faculty on a regular basis.
- Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
- Ability to work with Paramedicine Program Director, faculty, Department Chair, Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels.
- Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:
Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in extended standing with some occasional lifting is possible. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Must be able to climb or pull self upward, kneel, stoop, crawl and crouch. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:
- AAS-Paramedicine degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning that includes course work equivalent to the uniform associate of applied science degree in Paramedicine as approved by the Oregon State Board of Education and offered by Oregon’s community colleges.
- One year of paramedic pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency care experience.
Licenses: Oregon EMT
Certifications: Healthcare Provider CPR
