What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Controls Engineer position at CHEP?
The Senior Electrical Controls Engineer will lead the development and support of complex automated solutions allowing CHEP to reach its goals of a touchless plant. The Senior Electrical Controls Engineer will apply knowledge of engineering principles to support the development of automated solutions, programmable logic control systems (PLCs), instrumentation and IT Solutions.
This role will provide senior level Electrical Controls support for new and old technologies in CHEP. This might include technologies involving Networking, Vision, RFID, Programming, Marking, or other systems that support team activities.
This position requires up to 50% travel. Candidates must live near a major US airport with ability to travel regularly.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Lead the full lifecycle of engineering projects, from concept development and design to commissioning and operational handoff, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and operational objectives.
- Ensure adherence to global safety standards (e.g., ISO, OSHA), risk assessments, and regulatory requirements during the design, installation, and operational phases of projects.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization, focusing on reliability, maintainability, and productivity to reduce downtime and improve system performance.
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on engineering best practices, troubleshooting issues, and mentoring junior engineers to foster technical growth and innovation.
- Partner with Operations, IT, Safety, and other stakeholders to align project objectives, address technical challenges, and drive seamless integration across functions.
- Oversee supplier and contractor activities, ensuring adherence to standards, timelines, and budget constraints during project execution.
- Develop training materials and upskill teams on new technologies, systems, and best practices, ensuring proper documentation and operational handoff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related Engineering
- Proficient with Rockwell devices
- Basic Knowledge of Robotic Safety and programming
- Familiar with 13849-1 [ISO standard]
- Able to work in a remote environment
Experience:
- 10 years' experience in Electrical/Control systems in a relay/PLC based controls design,
- development, implementation in a fast-paced industrial, logistics, production manufacturing
- environment
- Operations experience, supporting production
- 5-10 years project engineering and/or related project management experience
- Experience with Simulation Data Collection and Application
- Experience with safety programming with Rockwell Studio 5000 and Asset Centre
- Experience with networked devices using EtherNet or DeviceNet
- Experience with electrical theory, Robotics, Controls components, automated equipment
- Demonstrated experience with Functional Safety standards (IEC 62061, IEC 13849, or IEC 61508)
- Experience with conveyor, sortation, scanning/vision, shuttle systems, AMRs and robotics
Base Salary Range is $116,000 - 174,000 annually
Salary ranges provided take into account a wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications, geographic differentials and other business and organizational needs. Therefore, actual amounts offered may be higher or lower than the range provided.
