What are the responsibilities and job description for the Undergraduate Behavioral Health Intern position at Children's Home Network?

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible work within behavioral health-related services with youth in a residential setting, under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst or Licensed Mental Health Counselor, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team. Behavioral health interns will support the programs targeting a variety of behavioral health services on campus. Involves a broad range of training and development activities, assessment services, case consultation, and will follow closely the internship requirements and curriculum of USF College of Behavioral and Community Sciences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Interns will operate within a trauma informed care treatment lens.
  2. Interns will positively interact with other residential team members, clinical therapists, school liaison, activities coordinator, case managers, teachers, etc., as needed to ensure services are successfully implemented.
  3. Interns will participate in treatment plan reviews, client consultations, youth staffing meetings, and/or any client review meetings as necessary for their current projects.
  4. Interns will work within the philosophy, function and Human Resources practices of the Children's Home Network.
  5. Interns will observe and practice evidence-based therapeutic and trauma-informed behavioral health services.
  6. Interns will build rapport with staff and youth.
  7. Interns will observe and identify teaching and training opportunities.
  8. Interns will assist with day-to-day operations in serving the behavioral and mental health needs of clients and staff in a residential setting
  9. Interns will be responsible for any other behavioral health related activities directed by supervisors to include researching literature, disseminating information, creating materials, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/ or GED equivalent.
  • Must be registered at USF in the Mental Health Law and Policy undergraduate course.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license with no record of criminal driving offense of license suspension.
  • Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required insurance.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and state criminal background check and sexual predator screening.

COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Annual Training Requirements: The following training topics are required annually: Prevention of Sexual Harassment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Workplace Accident Prevention and Reporting, Confidentiality and Privacy Practices, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Statutes and Methods, Crisis Prevention, and Program Goals.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong quantitative, project management, written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment and be results- oriented.
  • Strong customer service skills; to provide service in a courteous, prompt, and efficient manner; to use empathetic listening skills, communicate with clarity, and maintain an attitude that conveys respect, assistance, honesty, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to process confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multi-task while paying attention to the details and managing changing priorities.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Visual: ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, read printed materials, and make observations of physical facilities.
  • Hearing: ability to understand and comprehend spoken dialogue in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively.
  • Reasonable accommodation will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and related office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Good hearing (with or without hearing device).
  • Able to lift at least 20 lbs.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Works within an office environment and within residential campus activities.
  • High level of emotional discussions requiring self-awareness regarding loss/abuse issues and understanding of professional boundaries.
  • High interaction with children.
  • Possible exposure to verbal abuse and physical behavior.

Salary : $14 - $19
