POSITION SUMMARY :

Identify needs, plans, and implement family education programs focused on parents, caregivers, and child. Conducts home visits and group connections in accordance with PAT model. Partner with parents and other caregivers to engage in activities that enhance parenting practice to increase understanding of positive parenting, child development, readiness for school, school success, family wellness, and wellbeing. Position requires ability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekend activities. Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Works with partner agencies to provide family education that strengthens the family in support of healthy child development including teaching, facilitating, and leading classes, workshops, wraparound support, family action plans and home visiting
  • Provides regular scheduled home visits to support healthy child development and positive parenting using the evidence-based Parents as Teachers curriculum
  • Conduct developmental screening and assessments of children and home environment assessments making referrals as necessary
  • May provide early learning / child development / parenting presentations to community groups including PTA's, childcare centers, workplace sites, and / or family support centers
  • Maintains complete confidential records on children and family in accordance with program, best practice or fidelity requirements
  • Implements and track outcome-based measurement tools
  • Responsible for collecting and maintaining program records
  • Attends regular team meetings with the supervisor and other Family Educators
  • Attends regular 1 : 1 reflective supervision meeting
  • Shares developmentally appropriate activities that promote healthy development
  • Assists in recruiting and enrolling program participants
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Knowledge and practice of family support principles and practice
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Should be able to build and maintain relationships with families and with community organizations and schools
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and effectively especially with culturally and socio-economically diverse populations
  • Must be able to work independently; organize and prioritize tasks responsibly
  • Must possess strong human relations skills to communicate and work effectively within a culturally diverse work environment and community
  • Proficient in MS Windows, Office Suite and Outlook

  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT :

    This job is performed in a professional office environment. The following list is representative of the work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job :

  • WORKING REMOTELY :

    Working remotely is a benefit of Akin's flexible workplace, but remote work cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Remote work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard; occasionally to reach, stoop and kneel
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years' previous supervised work experience with young children and / or parents.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license and reliable transportation
  • A one-step Mantoux TB skin test prior to start of employment. For those who have previously tested positive, documented proof of treatment from a doctor or a negative chest x-ray must be provided
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
  • Successful completion of a drivers check if position requires driving on a regular basis (at least three times per week) or drives Must not have more than two driving incidents within the last three years
  • SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS :

    The salary range for this position is $25.87 - $36.21. The starting salary range for this position is $25.87 - $28.45 DOE for external candidates.

    Employees will also receive 10 days of vacation leave each year, three Employee Appreciation Day each year, and will accrue one sick day per month (pro-rated for part-time employees). Employees will also enjoy 14 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. We also offer EAP and mental health benefits.
