Job Overview

The Newborn Hearing Technician Supervisor is responsible for hiring, supervising, managing performance and developing newborn hearing technician staff. The position provides oversight of patient care and manages patient flow in the required clinic and is responsible for ensuring appropriate care is provided is partnership with other clinical staff. The supervisor provides oversight to the education to parents pertaining to the relevance of hearing screening and early intervention, and records patient information and hearing screen results.

  • Essential Functions

    An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

    • Directs day-to-day activities of the Newborn Hearing Technicians.
    • Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; hires and fires team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.
    • Manages patient flow.
    • Insures proper training and orientation of new staff.
    • Implements quality improvement activities.
    • Collaborates with department management team in promoting customer focused delivery of service.
    • The Supervisor may also perform the work of a Newborn Hearing Technician including: performing newborn hearing screenings, coordinating and completing post-discharge follow-up care, and phone triage.
    • Complies with all regulatory standards, hospital policies/procedures and quality/patient safety standards.
    • Complies with OSHA regulations, infection control protocols, CHCO patient safety policies, Joint Commission regulations, National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), and QSRS filing

    SCOPE AND LEVEL

    Guidelines: Guidelines are in the form of stated objectives for the section, unit, function, or project. Performs most elements of supervision over 50% of the time. May also perform the work of front line staff as needed.

    Complexity: Work assignment is generally unstructured and employee is responsible for assigning and supervising a variety of functions to achieve the objectives of the section, unit, or project. Duties performed involve weighing and evaluating factors requiring judgment, analytical ability, and problem solving.

    Decision Making: Employee is responsible for simultaneous coordination and supervision of several functions, programs, or projects in various stages of completion. Primary responsibility is for arranging and directing the work of two or more employees.

    Communications: Contacts are of a non-prescribed nature involving the negotiation and resolution of problems and where exceptional degrees of discretion, judgment, and specialized knowledge are required in carrying out the programs and policies of an organization.

    Supervision Received: Under managerial direction, the employee has personal accountability for carrying out the work objectives of an organizational unit or section within the scope of established guidelines and the mission of the organization or department. Employee is expected to resolve problems that arise in the normal course of the work. Work may be discussed with higher level supervisors and reviewed for soundness of judgment and feasibility of decisions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification

    EDUCATION – High school diploma or equivalent

    EXPERIENCE – Four years of experience in Newborn Hearing Screening and utilization of related equipment

    EQUIVALENCY – None

    CERTIFICATION(S) – CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare providers

    LICENSURE - none

    Salary Information

    Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

    Hourly Range: $23.54 to $35.31
