Role and Responsibilities
As the Cheese Department Manager, you are a key player in overseeing and managing all aspects of the cheese department including but not limited to: department profitability, displays, oversee inventory control and leading the team to successfully drive business/sales. Our guest is the heart of our business. As the Cheese Department Manager, you will be responsible for providing every guest with an exceptional shopping experience; listening and responding to their needs and being the subject matter expert of your department. All Cheese Department Managers must have vast knowledge of cheese, hospitality skills, positive energy, be dependable, possess basic math skills and excellent communication skills.
- Must be extremely guest focus and hospitality driven.
- Provide exceptional guest service by immediately greeting every guest that enters the department.
- Supervise day to day operations of the cheese department.
- Cut, wrap, and portion size various types of cheeses; as well operate deli slicer.
- Manage department profitability, merchandising, guest service, appearance, and team member supervision.
- Write department schedules, approve team members PTO time, and maintain timecards.
- Model and deliver outstanding guest service to ensure guest needs are met in a timely fashion.
- Supervise team members ensuring service standards are always being met.
- Lead the team to drive sells by training them on product knowledge and suggestive selling.
- Process and submit orders; keeping track of department inventory.
- Monitor quality, freshness, product variety, and safeguard proper product rotation.
- Merchandise cheese products attractively in the department and cross merchandise throughout the store.
- Work directly with cheese buyer.
- Adhere to all DOH, DOA and OSHA standards.
- Ensure department is cleaned and maintained throughout all shifts.
- Maintain accurate department signage and pricing.
- Keep records of temperatures, production, damages, shorts, out of date product, and department transfers by way of department log.
- Direct and support team members on department opening and closing procedures.
- Assist store leadership, as required, to select, train, develop, and mentor team members.
- Cultivate, develop and retain team members by way of motivation, and providing feedback.
- Adhere to all assigned duties by management team.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a cheese department in a grocery store environment.
- Flexibility schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of job including standing during scheduled hours, kneeling, stooping, using stairs, lifting, push and pull items of usually 20-50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a temperature-controlled environment.
- Vast knowledge of cheese and dairy products.
- Advanced knife skills. This may also include deli slicer experience.
- Food safety and sanitation knowledge.
- Ability to show initiative, work with limited supervision, and are self-motivated.
- Ability to hire, train, inspire and develop a team.
- Team builder and brand ambassador.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer knowledge and skills; Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
