The Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for a Regional Park Manager II! Under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation District Manager II, this position plans, organizes, and directs an on-site management, operation, and maintenance of parks and recreation resources including grounds, facilities, equipment and recreation, and leisure time programs and services; and participates in planning of park improvements in Ala Moana Regional Park and adjoining area.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Plans and organizes the parks and recreation operations and maintenance functions in a geographic area through subordinate personnel.
- Directs, conducts an in-person, on-site visits and coordinates the management, operation, control and maintenance of all parks and recreation areas in the section.
- Oversees the coordination with various agencies and City personnel (Department of Design and Construction, Managing Director’s Office, Department of Enterprise Services, Department of Facility Maintenance, Department of Environmental Services, Maintenance Support Services Section, Division of Urban Forestry, etc.) to plan and coordinate programs, activities and functions.
- Directs and coordinates through subordinate staff the operations of recreational and educational programs and services within the area.
- Enforces the State’s conservation and resource laws, rules and regulations to ensure the protection, conservation and utilization of fish and wildlife resources.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, hospitality management, horticulture, agronomy, botany, landscape architecture, or related field.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four (4) years of experience in managing the overall operation of a major park (e.g., district park), group of parks (e.g., recreation complex) or similar facility, which demonstrated knowledge of facility usage and coordination; and/or administrative experience in managing the maintenance and beautification of a major park or similar facility, which demonstrated technical competence in soil and turf management and landscaping.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of business management, public relations, and supervision; principles, practices, techniques and methods of turf management; budget preparation, basic accounting and record-keeping; and the ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of subordinate staff; develop recreational policies, procedures, rules and regulations; plan and establish a grounds beautification and maintenance program; plan the development and growth of the regional park; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff, representatives of other departments, community groups, and the general public; and deal effectively with employees, volunteers, and the public.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license. Current vacancy requires a valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
