The purpose of this position is to provide support for the City's fitness facilities. This is accomplished by assisting in the contracting of instructors, booking available times for classes, acquiring substitute instructors when needed, evaluating group classes, and enhancing group programs. Other duties may include providing customer service, responding to member inquiries and questions, and providing administrative support. This position does not provide direction to other employees. This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
- Assists in contracting group exercise instructors by participating in the selection of instructors, ensuring professional services agreements are completed and the professional services process is followed, providing training, evaluating contractor class and instructor performance, and addressing instructor deficiencies.
- Promotes group exercise programs by creating and maintaining the group exercise schedule, tracking and generating reports on class participation and client feedback, monitoring instructors for safety and motivational programming, and subbing for classes when instructors are unavailable.
- Provides administrative assistance by answering the telephone, answering client and guest questions, and informing class participants of other facility programs and events.
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- High School diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of group exercise instructor experience
Certification and Other Requirements
- Valid Drivers License
- First Aid/CPR Certification, or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of employment
Reading
Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Math
Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Writing
Basic - Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Managerial
Receives general directions. The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. The employee may choose the appropriate procedure or policy. Performance is reviewed periodically.

No responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
