He believes in the value of planning in assisting Boerne to maintain its unique and vibrant community. He has nearly 30 years of planning experience.
The Planning Department works collaboratively with citizens, applicants, appointed and elected officials and staff to resolve the inevitable issues and conflicts associated with changing land use and development. Other responsibilities include assisting the public, elected, and appointed officials in development review, planning for future land use, development, and redevelopment in harmony with community values.
The Department includes a Director, Assistant Director, three Planner II's, an Environmental Program Manager, a Planning Technician, and an Administrative Assistant. The Permitting and Code Compliance Department also reports to the Director. The Planning Department has a FY 2024 budget of $1.49 million.
The successful candidate will manage, review, and implement both current and long-range planning and development projects. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator and a receptive listener. They will have initiative and a drive to proactively work toward solutions. The chosen candidate will be able to build and maintain relationships within the development community and the organization.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, urban design, environmental planning, landscape architecture, architecture, public administration, geography, sustainability, or a closely related field, and three years of progressively responsible experience in a related field. A master’s degree may substitute for one year of municipal planning experience. Or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted. Experience with Boards such as a Planning and Zoning Commission is a plus. A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
The salary range for this position is $68,141 to $102,232 depending on qualifications and experience. The City of Boerne offers a generous benefits program including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; and holidays. The city participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a 7% employee deposit rate with a municipal matching ratio of 2:1. Two weeks Paid Parental Leave was recently approved for employees.
