Job Description
The selected candidates will be eligible for:
*$3,000 SIGNING BONUS *
* $4,000 annual CDL Stipend (if applicable)*

It takes someone very special to be an Equipment Operator II who operates heavy machinery and to repair/maintain water systems! And we are looking for YOU to utilize that special talent to make a difference in our community as an Equipment Operator II

As an Equipment Operator II, you will utilize those special talents to:
  • Operate backhoes, crane trucks, excavators, and vacuum trucks.
  • Repair water mains; repair, replace, or install fire hydrants and water valves.
  • Technical work relating to the repair, installation, and maintenance of a Water Distribution Systems and the Department of Public Utilities.

This position is deemed an Alpha position so you must have the ability to work in any emergency situations due to weather or operational issues. Must be available for inclement weather, mandatory standby duty, and overtime as needed.

Position requires a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and is subject to Random Drug/Alcohol Testing. Some night work may also be required. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.


Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. A high school diploma, GED, OR specialized vocational training is preferred.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
Ability to add a tank truck endorsement within six months of hire, if you do not already have it.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this position requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Yes, employee will be part of a team of two to three employees or more and will be assisted in most all tasks by a General Supervisor or a Crew Supervisor and an Equipment Operator I. Task examples are shoveling, asphalt or concrete work; water main, valve or fire hydrant maintenance and repairs, etc.
