Job Summary:
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in servicing the wastewater collection system.
Examples of work performed: operates hydraulic flushing and television trucks in collection system maintenance; removes roots, debris and other refuse from clogged wastewater lines; installs service lines for new customers; drives dump trucks; operates miniature inspection camera to investigate complaints; checks customer com plaints concerning wastewater service, including making physical inspection of connections; locates breaks and leaks in wastewater pipelines and repairs them; assist water system personnel as needed; performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in servicing wastewater systems
Knowledge of state and city traffic regulations
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Geographical knowledge of the City
Ability to operate assigned equipment
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to operate light motor vehicles
Ability to keep routine records and produce simple reports
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees
Qualifications:
High school education or equivalent is required. Experience in wastewater or water line construction or maintenance preferred. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license and possess or be able to obtain a Commercial driver's license within six (6) months of employment.
Essential Functions:
Work involves significant physical labor and movement to include digging, lifting, carrying items weighing up to 100lbs., and working in deep trenches. Employees in this class frequently work in inclement weather and may be exposed to dirt, noxious odors, and noise. Hazards include roadway traffic, pressurized water, biological hazards associated with raw sewage, and operating mechanical equipment. Subject to call out.
