What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spring/Fall Maintenance position at City of De Pere?
Perform spring and fall maintenance in the Parks Department. This position will assist the full-time staff in the performance of facility and grounds maintenance work which may include landscaping, mowing, trimming, raking, clean-up, and inspections.
Schedule: This position typically works 32-40 hours per week. April - May & September – November; Normal hours are scheduled Monday - Thursday between 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Friday between 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. There is some flexibility with scheduling within the core hours.

Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, and pruning saws.Perform various park maintenance duties such as dragging and marking ball fields and measuring and lining athletic fields. Mow, edge and rake lawns, using power mowers or edger. Gather and remove litter.
Assist in the installation, repair, inspection and maintenance of playground equipment, fences, signs, benches, and picnic tables. Maintain and repair boat ramp facilities. Maintain or repair tools, equipment, vehicles, or structures.
Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt in those areas.
Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes.
Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other grounds features. Perform carpentry or masonry work as directed and needed.
Prepare reports as required.
Perform daily routine maintenance on equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of park maintenance practices and procedures, including equipment maintenance and plant and lawn care principals. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices in order to operate trucks and equipment safely and effectively.
Skill in the use of various types of hand and power tools related to the work. Ability to control operations of equipment or systems. Skill and ability to keep routine records.
Ability to operate automotive and light equipment. Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time and under unfavorable conditions. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with business representatives, elected officials, department heads, the general public, and other City employees with courtesy and tact. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to utilize a computer and required software. Ability to work the required hours of the position. At least 18 years of age by first day of employment.
Valid Wisconsin driver's license and good driving record
